I might have a line on a job there, but I’ve never been. Fill me in on the good, the bad, and the ugly, please.
GREAT TOWN!
Set in the mountains, it is beautiful!
Climate is nice, not too hot in Summer, nor too cold in Winter.
Lots to do, recreation-wise, with a Zoo, parks, boating, fishing & swimming, & plenty of museums.
Good library system (I once worked there), excellent University.
The TVA dam gives flood control & relatively cheap hydro power. And a lake for recreation.
Fun town, by Southern standards. If the State wanted to transfer me, I’d be gone like a shot (with OK pay, of course).
Bad–the local Religious Right are paleolithic.

Thanks, Bosda, and one bump in case anyone else wants to chime in.
The International Towing and Recovery Hall of Fame and Museum is worth a stop.
The mural depicting The Battle of Lookout Mt. up at Point Park is pretty cool.
I attended the little liberal arts college up the road a bit in Sewanee. (Sewanee’s a great place to visit, BTW, if you wind up down there.) Chattanooga is convenient to most of the interesting outdoorsy parts of Tennessee and NC. It’s also not too far from Atlanta and Knoxville should you crave a city fix.
It’s fairly progressive by all Southern standards in terms of economic development. As previously mentioned, it’s pretty conservative by religious metrics and probably isn’t full of the most tolerant people around. As the site of a significant battle in the CW, you’ll probably find there’s a bit more Confederate nostalgia in places than you might be comfortable with.
Still, the cost of living is still pretty low, taxes are low, and housing/land is still reasonably priced.
One little quirky thing about it - - it’s very near the western end of the Eastern time zone. That was more of a concern for those of us leaving Sewanee (central time) to get to something in Boogie-town, but I don’t know if that’s much of a factor for folks who live there.
Hope this helps.
So, did you get the job?
