Tell me about having a child with a speech delay.

How nice to hear that your daughter is still progressing nicely! I was re-reading this thread the other day and wondering how the various kids mentioned in it are doing.

Socializing has been difficult for my boy as well, other kids are slow to accept him, and the language barrier and his behavioral issues have made friendships a challenge. Having three siblings close in age to him helps somewhat, but it’s not quite the same as making his own friends, and so far that hasn’t happened for him, though not for lack of trying.

I’m not sure I could ever see myself homeschooling him, mainly because I feel like his social issues won’t improve unless he has lots of (non-sibling) kids to model his behaviors on. (So says the hopeful mom. We’ll see how I’m feeling about all that in a few more years, shall we?)

He had a “first” last week that amused my husband and me - the teacher gave him a written warning for talking too much. I never felt so happy about my kid getting in trouble before.

Maybe we should start another thread. My daughter started 5th grade with an on-line learning program. It’s not homeschool per say. She is actually part of a school district, has a teacher overseeing her progress, lesson plans, materials, has to attend on line classes several times per week, has a set curriculum, etc. Washington State funds it, in that its no cost to the student/family. Basically, it’s your school year in a box. And the students go at their own pace. China Bambina has a mix of 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade curriculum depending on the subject. We’ve only done it for 5 weeks but so far so good.
