Tell me about Printer/Scanner/Copiers

My Canon Pixma ip6000D printer will not print black anymore. Even with a brand new print head and a brand new black ink cartridge. I’m guessing this means some type of electronic failure that makes the unit a total loss.

So I’m looking at a Printer/Scanner/Copier unit as a replacement for use with my PC. My question is about the Scanner function on these multi-purpose units. The Umax Astra 1220S scanner I have attached to my other computer (a Mac) allows me to use Photoshop’s scanning capability to scan images and then use the images in Photoshop or other graphics programs. Do the scanners that are part of these multi-function printers typically inter-face with the PC version of Photoshop to allow me to do the same thing on my PC that I now do on the Mac? Or do they just allow you to scan and then print what you’ve scanned from the printer?

Yes, they function as regular scanners too (otherwise they’d just be Printer/Copiers, no?). You can scan into Photoshop or any other similar application… on the PC, I believe the interface is called TWAIN and most digital imaging applications will have built-in “Acquire” functions for exactly this.
