Tell me about your experiences with teeth whitening

I just made an appointment to have my teeth professionally whitened at a dentist’s office. For $250 I get the instant-results treatment as well as a bunch of touch-up trays to use at my leisure for whenever the whiteness begins to fade. Not too shabby I think, considering that I’d done some research on comparable procedures from other offices that were charging twice as much.

Disregarding what was explained to me personally at the office, what is your experience with teeth whitening? What did you think of the results? How long did they last? Did you use a do-it-yourself kit or did you do it in an office? How much did you pay?

I paid about $350 when this was popular a few years ago and I went to a Dental Brite or something. I don’t remember. Lasted about 6 months or so, and I got a touch up a year later.

But I now go to a dentist who includes these things when you’re his patient. So I suggest you switch dentists.

The one-visit whitening probably won’t give you the best results so expect to do more at home. Also… you can buy the gel tubes online for much less than your dentist charges.

What do you buy exactly? Does it work as well as the zoom whitening?

Once upon a time when I was new in town, I had an appointment with a dentist who, it turned out, was about to retire. Either because he had nothing to lose or because he was a blowhard who enjoyed critiquing what all those durn kid dentists are doing these days, he said that Crest Whitestrips whiten as well as the office treatments, and for a tenth of the price.

Anyway, my only experience with teeth whitening is with Crest Whitestrips. I get many compliments on my pretty white teeth.

I’ve tried both, and IMHO that’s a load of junk. The white strips aren’t anywhere nearly as good as professional kits.

IMHO also, you’re wasting time and money doing a single treatment at a dentists office. I did this a couple years ago, and I got a mail order kit. I’m pretty sure it was britewhite. Basically, you make a DIY mold at home, send in the impression, and they send back the plastic mouthguard/trays. The gels come in a syringe like thing, and you just squirt it carefully on the tray. It was easy, they were fast, and it definitely worked.

There’s really no need for a dentist for this type of thing. A technician is making the tray anyways, and you can buy the same gels online.

Oh, I also did the teeth whitening thing at a hair salon - similar to the mall kiosks. Waste of money.

Again - GO TO A DENTIST WHO OFFERS THIS WITH HIS CARE.
