I’m with you on the highway part, but usually I prefer my buildings even more bunkery. But this has just enough tropicality around it that being relatively resorty gives it the perfect look. If there had been less, or even more, tropical nature around it, I would have preferred it being unpainted concrete.
I’ve been staying down in Kurtistown a lot, and it can get pretty bad there, although luckily I don’t react much myself - I know people who get headaches from it. But now I’m in Honomū, and it’s nearly unheard of to experience noticeable vog.
My cousin lives on the Kona side - I think it’s worse for him and his wife.
Now here is the sort of quirky place I would love to own if I had an unlimited budget for repairs, was young enough to not mind some inconveniences, and I had the time, know-how and energy for a lot of DIY fix-ups. None of those conditions hold, alas, but I can dream.
It is priced below its appraised value, probably because the estate executor just wants to get rid of it.
That looks nice! Kamuela (usually referred to as Waimea) is pretty upscale. It’s also on the cooler side, for those not thrilled with super-hot weather.
But, PRICEY! And who needs two houses (I don’t think it’s a great neighborhood for rentals, though I could be wrong.) Maybe something for a set of in-laws to buy together, one house for each.
