Oh my god! Another man in a black tuxedo! I’m so embarassed…
Just for reference, I do happen to know that the Rules of the House in our Legislature explicitly state that jeans and other denims are NOT compliant with the “business attire” dress code in the Floor of the House while in Session.
Wear the tiara.
“Black tie optional,” as many others have said, isn’t a real designation anyway. So, if you’re going to wear the gown, wear the gloves (remember, you cannot eat with gloves on or your hands will fall off), wear the tiara - if it matches the gown.
I love dressing up.
Unfortunately, I only have one gown (and it was given to me!) and it’s…black. A new ball gown is not in the budget, I’m afraid, although I can swing the funds to go get my hair “done”. (An inexpensive upsweep at Super Cuts.)
I’ll be the one attendee in the back in her used, black ball gown and Super Cuts upsweep hair. Just call me Cinderella.
Slight hijack (can I do that to my own thread???)–at my place of employment, in our Personnel Manual, it actually states something to the effect that denim, in any form, is never acceptable attire while at work. Needless to say, we don’t have “dress down Fridays”.
Hey, a black ballgown and upsweep looks classy. Trust me on this one.
You are going to post pix, right?
Unfortunately, the HallCollegeKids escaped with the digital camera. I’ll see what I can do with a plain ole’ 35 mm though.
I’m sure you’ll be lovely.
Add me to the list of those who hate the wishy-washy Black Tie Optional. I ignore the word “optional” and just treat such an invitation as Black Tie – me in a gown and my husband in his Dinner Dress uniform. Except now that he is retired, it’ll be me in a gown and him in a tux.
Have fun, phall0106!
