I have an opportunity to spend a week in an all-inclusive resort anywhere (almost) in the world. All I have to pay for is my plane ticket. Those who know me, know I have been nowhere (basically). So what I am looking for is suggestions. My friend and I want warm beaches (we’ll be going during winter here in Winnipeg), cold margaritas and hopefully somewhere we would not normally be able to go (because we wouldn’t normally be able to afford it). Any thoughts??
Australia.
Aruba!
Both good thoughts, Australia came up but plane fare is pretty pricey, at least from Central Canada.
I can only speak from experience but I had the most fun in Manzanillo, Mexico. It was and perhaps still is a quiet resort area as compared to the more travelled locales such as Puerto Vallarta.
The Bahamas are great but the cost of things can be quite high.
Cancun.
Jamaica.
Rio.
Personal experience: I love Cancun
Next Vacation: Hear great things about Mazatlan
That said, when a big chunk of the cost is covered I’d do what it takes to do it up right. I understand that airfare off of this continent is awfully damn expensive, but think about the total cost of the trip. Chances are good that one day you’ll be able to afford a trip to Mexico and the Carribean on your own, as comparitively they’re very cheap and easy vacations for US/Canada residents. Take the opportunity to go to Australia, or the Mediteranean when the bulk of the trip is covered, Airfare is nice in that you can cut costs if you shop enough, na dthe cost is up front and fixed as to not adversely affect the vaction once you’re there. Whats the better deal, paying $350 for a $1500 vacation, or paying $1000 for a $4000 vacation? Personally I’d take the latter everytime, I’d go for Sydney.
I fell in love with the Bahamas. It’s beautiful down there.

Cuba’s supposed to be nice.
Or how about the Greek islands? You can fly to northern or central Europe relatively cheaply and overland from there.
Ah Dropzone, you and your silly wit, I like you, I’ll kill you last.
Go to Turkey. Specifically, vacation in Antalya. It’s extraordinarily beautiful, cheap, accessible, and not the typical vacation spot.
Hawaii is my favorite spot. Go to Kauai if you can, it is one of the least built-up islands. I was there for more than 2 weeks last year…awesome.

But leave the boyfriend (AKA, the old ball and chain) at home!
(I’ve seen your picture, hubba, hubba…)
Seriously, I hear Cancun is nice. I’ll have a better idea, though, after GolfWidow sends me a postcard from there (unfortunately, that’s the closest to Cancun I’m likely to get on my penny ante salary).
[hijack]Hi, GolfWidow! Hope you’re having a nice time on your vacation! Maybe you can give us some input on this topic when you get back! [/hijack]
I just got back from Cancun and DRY made me aware of this thread.
Cancun was great! Travelling there was easy and cheap (approximately $400 round trip from Orlando). I stayed at an all inclusive hotel “Cancun Palace” and it was wonderful. There are actually five hotels in the Hotel Zone that are affiliated with the Cancun Palace, and once you check in to one, you can go to any five for the different amenities they offer during the day and evening; all you have to do is spend the night at the hotel where you are checked in. They feed you all day and night, its like being on a cruise except the food is actually very good. They had the best breakfast buffet.
Our trip averaged out to about $100+ per person, but this was based on a group package (there were 16 of us).
