I live in the Los Angeles area, and have been here for 3 years. The city is so large and congested, I tend to stay in my local immediate community at Venice Beach.
But then I though about how much of the city I’m missing out on due to my limited exposure, so I thought I’d start this thread to hear what you guys and gals love about this city, and what you enjoy doing while you’re here!
Also, the touristy stuff is fun once, and I’d like to hear about that stuff, too, but I’d also really like to hear from some locals about their cool local scenes. Cool restaurants, bars, anything notable . . .
Personally, this is what I love doing here:

I’m at the beach, so I like surfing, skateboarding down the boardwalk

Drinking/eating at local bars/restaurants, notably: Enterprise Fish Company in Santa Monica, Malo in Hollywood, Library Ale House in Venice, Firehouse in Venice, Mao’s in Venice

Watching bands at the Venice Bistro on the Boardwalk, notably the Doors cover band
Mostly what I love about Venice is the culture . . . lots of really cool open minded people, the air breeds creativity here.
