Tell us about your local fish fry

How so? Most Catholic parishes hold them during Lent as fundraisers. The food is very good. (Like most church lady cooking!) Our local news even has a list of the various places that have them.

Yeah. Most restaurants here in Milwaukee and many other points in the southern/central half of Wisconsin have a fish fry every-single-Friday-of-the ENTIRE-year.

It would be impossible for me to list all the great ones here in Brew City.

Those of you in the cheeseless 49: Eat your hearts out!

Our parish has one every Friday in Lent, even Good Friday some years. I believe it’s cod or whitefish, you can get it fried or baked. Also French fries, mac and cheese, two kinds of cole slaw, rolls, and desserts. It’s a little pricey for us so we haven’t gone in a few years, plus the fryers are inadequate to keep up with the demand and there is often a line waiting for the fried fish and/or French fries.

One might say that it’s low-end and very reputable. If someone decided that they were “too good for” fish fries, they’d be shunned by the entire community.

Guinastasia, they’re not universal. Around here, even many non-Catholic churches hold them, but when I lived in Montana, neither of the Catholic churches in town (nor any other organization) had fish fries.
