Tell Us About Your May Day Celebration!

What exciting things did you do?

(unfortunately I am a stick-in-the-mud who hasn’t celebrated May Day since third grade or so)

Last May Day, my car windows were smashed by other “celebrants”.

So I’m celebrating by parking in the back yard this year.

Same way I celebrate New Years but a lot warmer; took the bike for a ride around in the sun we actually had for once. All the trees and blooms are enough celebration for me.

It has been a gorgeous SUNNY day in Downeast Maine. We took the big shiny new crossover vehicle out for a spin down about 40 miles to a favorite farmers’ market where we bought yummy rye bread, chocolate croissants, biscotti, bagels and a bialy. Heard some fiddle, button accordion and guitar, and the buskers gave me their CD (so I can promote it on my radio show & make sure the other DJs know about it).

Then we started back home, but got waylaid by the flea market! Now open for the season! I found a small (7 oz.) pale green MOXIE bottle to add to my collection

Then we ate way too much Chinese food.

After we got back to the home town, we did more junque shopping at Goodwill. Found a miniature kaleidoscope-y toy for a buck, and more coffee mugs.

A fine time was had by us

1 Denunciation and 1 self-accusation meeting. One missile parade. Same as everybody else in our collective.

Last day of work before a three week road trip. Blue Highways here I come!

There was no march in DC this year, since lots of people journeyed to Baltimore to offer support there. The Washington Peace Center had a fundraising Happy Hour(s) at a nearby restaurant, and so I went, encountering a lot of familiar faces along with some new ones. I did a lot of shameless promoting of my band.

I got to take the day off of work since May 1st is a national holiday in the PRC. I did laundry. What a thrill.

It’s not a holiday here.

We sang for the feast of Saint Joseph the Worker.

It’s still a holiday here. Tomorrow (monday) is a holiday too.

I made Swedish meatballs and a Napoleon torte (pastry). Both turned out very tasty (очень вкусно)

Next weekend is also a holiday - May 9 - aka VE day (70th anniversary - woo hoo!) and I’m doing nothing besides buying the vodka.

The usual…bonfire, Maypole, a little too much mead.

Got our solar panel fired up for the first time and it and the battery run the lights and furnace on our camper nicely. The coffee pot proved too much for it, however, to no one’s surprise. More tinkering to commence…
