So, my SO and I are celebrating 2 years this month. I know we’ve posted about bad dates and dating dealbreakers - but I thought it might be fun to focus on the good stuff (c’mon, y’know I always get in to feel-good mode before the weekend!)
So here’s my story:
I found him on OKCupid - and after reading his profile and finding out he was a librarian, I sent him an email saying he was so cute I wanted to check him out like a Harry Potter novel. He replied back pointing out that books can only be checked out for 3 weeks and he was looking for something a little more long term. So I asked him out instead.
I had 2 free tickets to Keith Sweatt’s “Ladies Night” tour concert - all I cared about was seeing Bel Biv Devoe sing “Poison” (I’m old school).
He said yes - but had to work that day - so he would be racing to get there. (He lived about 2 hours away) I was really excited about the date and panicked a little when it started raining pretty hard and getting stormy. We thought we might have to cancel, but he decided to come anyway.
We met at a restaurant parking lot and he jumped in to my car. He was even cuter in person and said the same to me. We had pretty good seats - although we didn’t sit in them much. Most of the time we were standing and dancing with the crowd, and talking required us to put our lips right next to each other’s ears - so it wasn’t long before we were doing some close dancing and arm-around-the-chair stuff.
After the concert, we weren’t ready to go home or to a bar, so we wound up at Denny’s. We sat and talked non-stop from about 11:30 PM to 5 AM. Still not ready for the date to end - we decided to watch the sunset together and have breakfast - so we drove back to my place so I could grab a change of clothes (my concert gear didn’t seem appropriate) and then we picked up his car and I followed him 2 hours back to his town.
Pretense fell away pretty quickly - and we spent the day together - “playing,” napping, grabbing food at local restaurants, and then coming back and playing and napping some more.
Eventually reality set in and I knew I had to get on the road if I was going to be in any condition to work the next day. After a little more playing, I got in the car around 7 PM - 23 hours after our date had started. I rode home the whole night just aglow.
We talked again that night - and were in constant email/phone communication for the next few days. We had our 2nd date later that week and it was just as awesome. After a few months, I transferred up here so we’d live closer (20 minutes beats 2 hours!) and as I said, we’re celebrating 2 years this month.
So what’s your story, morning glory? I look forward to reading them!
