My husband understands, he’s an everquest junkie. To him this is eq without the monsters. The rest of my family, well, it varies. My father wonders if I’m getting enough exercize (exersize?) Jeez, I wish there was spell check on this thing!
I am often emailing friends links to threads for them to read, interesting philosophy stuff or funny pit threads here or there, but no one seems to appreciate it. I subtly suspect they don’t actually read the links, because I can’t see how anyone can resist the power of the Straight Dope.

Actually, while I am responsible for letting dreamer know about this place (or addiction, if you prefer), I wouldn’t tell her my screen name for a long time and even went so far as to deny it at first when she figured it out. I wanted to retain my anonimity.
I do tell friends about the SDMB, although few are interested. They just don’t get what the big deal is. Their loss, as far as I am concerned.
Nah, other people don’t “get it”.
Which is fine by me, I steal, er, quote all of the really snappy and witty things that other dopers write. I can’t tell you all how terribly clever you’ve made me appear over the years.

I must say that when I tell people about this place and they ask me my name, I hesitate before telling them. It depends on who they are and if they know me well enough. Or rather if I want them to know me well enough :D.
