Question for the mods — what about ex-posters? Annoyances like the Grapist made a pretty big splash, different from a typical ten-day troll. Satan was an institution, as was Handy. JDT and FORMERAGENT were small rips in the fabric of the Timecube, but added fun and character to the board nonetheless. There are a few out there that while departed are still mentioned from time to time. But mentioning them may ruffle some feathers, so I’ll leave it up to you as to whether it fits in this context.
All great threads … some legendary, some it’s hard to tell. If you don’t see a thread listed, re-nominate or +1 it.
How to capture Doperfests? Can they be dated? Any of them stand out enough far beyond the attendees? With multiple fests in multiple places, how to differentiate between them?
I’m not sure how to incorporate general Internet into the board. All Your Base, Weeble and Bob (When come back, bring pie), etc. clearly had a presence, but hit the Internet as a whole. Oh, and then there’s bacon. Bacon bacon bacon bacon (salt). Where does it go?
Lastly, any help with chronology? Here’s how I knew my memory was shot: I’m pretty sure they happened relatively close to one another, but I can’t remember which wave came first — StormFront or Left Behind. I’m pretty sure we haven’t been awash since (a few minor incursions, but nothing like those two inundations), but which came first? By the way, didn’t a couple Left Behinders stay behind and join the board and become long-term notable posters?
If the chronology bit gets off the ground, I’d like to merge everything (and try to keep it colour-coded) into one list.
Oh, what about including mods and when they earned their jackboots?

According to Wiki, it made its appearance on February 23, 2001. It grew in popularity over the next couple of years. I’d bet that someone here mentioned it early in that time period.

As a new member, I’d love to read about all of these, I’m enjoying hanging out on the SDMB (mainly in MPSIMS, I don’t think I’ll ever have the nerve to put much more than a toe in the Pit - so if someone is Pitting me, let me know via PM, k?
