Teresa Heinz Kerry implies being a teacher is not a real job ?

When this election is over, we should have a contest in the Pit for the thread with the best example of manufactured outrage.

The words must appear differently on my screen than they do on yours - because marriage and children (or synonyms of the two words) appear absolutely nowhere in the passage in the OP.
Or, are you projecting again?

This thread is dumb.

When will this bloody election be over so people can go back to bitching about drivers, and coworkers and stuff.

Sooo . . . Considering Kerry’s war record, Bush’s starting a war, and Laura’s unfortunate accident—Mrs. Kerry (the victim of this Pit thread) is the only one of the four who’s never killed anyone?

I think Mrs. Kerry is a hoot and kind of wish that the Kerry folks hadn’t asked her to tone her personality down. She doesn’t whitewash her opinions and I can appreciate that in a woman. I hate the ultra-p.c. attitude that has crippled people from expressing themselves honestly in this country. You ask her a question, and honey, she’ll give it to you. She’s got a Marge Schott thing going on that I like and admire.

I saw Mrs. Bush on the Jay Leno show last show. She comes across as a lovely, gracious woman. Not as sharp as Mrs. Kerry, but very likeable. She also has a humility about her that accounts for why people respond to her more favorably than Mrs. Heinz. Mrs. Heinz, for all her good qualities, is not humble. And that rubs some people the wrong way because it’s not acting “feminine.”

Re the business about Laura Bush killing her boyfriend. It was a tragic accident. She hadn’t been drinking. She made a stupid, tragic mistake. If her boyfriend’s parents forgive her, then I don’t have any reason to crucify her over it.

Anyone who doesn’t like THK doesn’t have to vote for her.

You know, Mary Todd Lincoln was a huge nutcase. Does that mean Lincoln was a bad POTUS?

Well, that and the fact that these straight-shooting opinions are expressed by a foreign-born woman who still speaks with a European accent. Given the increase in anti-foreign attitudes in this country (e.g., the right-wing’s asinine campaign against France and “Old” Europe), it probably doesn’t help things in some of the more conservative and “unsophisticated” parts of the U.S. that Teresa Heinz Kerry’s first language was a Romance language (i.e., Portuguese) that’s on the same linguistic branch as (gasp!) French. I’m guessing that’s probably another reason why Kerry’s handlers have toned her down.

I am curious about Mrs. Bush’s experience with public schools. How long did Laura Bush teach? How long was she a librarian? The biographical sketch is unclear on that.

I’m curious because NCLB is unsound in its basic design and I have wondered if she had input.

I will be enormously pleased when the mods put an end to false titles on threads. They remind me of Inquirer headlines that say something like Do Microwaves Cause Homosexuality? and on the inside is an article that says, “No.”

Some of the Republicans must be feeling a sense of desperation. Is it really looking that bad, Latex Division?

Yeah, good thing republican governor Schwarzenegger speaks without an accent.

Don’t kid yourself, this is about her money, not her femininity. I truly respect and admire Mrs. Kerry for all of her acheivements. She can blunder a bit on stage though.

Sam

THK just had her Bushes mixed up. George is the one who’s never had a real job.

In my mind, both Teresa and Laura are in the category “Rich white gels who only work as much as they want to.” I doubt either of them have ever been in a situation where the choices were to either continue working at something they disliked, or go without paying the bills.

I have found Laura Bush’s response to Therese Heinz-Kerry’s comments very gracious.

Along the same lines, as I cleaned my gutters it occurred to me that neither Bush or Kerry has to do crap like that, nor has either of them ever had to do crap like that. They haven’t had to clean their own gutters, mow their own lawn, scrub their own toilet, or anything like that.

I wish we could edit stuff.

It ruffles my feathers a little to know that Mrs. Kerry is going to shoot her mouth off, not knowing what the hell she’s talking about (if she knew what the hell she was talking about, it makes her look even worse). If she doesn’t “know” whether Laura Bush has had a “real” job or not, why did she even bring it up? Mentioning it just starts this sort of reaction.

Think about how you’d feel if someone did this to you: they don’t know much about your life, but they ponder on whether or not you’ve had a “real” job or not. What the hell is that about? Why the hell do they feel entitled to discuss stuff that they don’t even know? Do you look like the kind of person who has never had a “real” job? What? It just sounds so snotty and presumptuous.

However, I like Teresa Kerry pretty well, and if she becomes First Lady, I think she’ll be a pistol. Actually, I like her better than John Kerry. But this was a stupid, bone-headed comment to make.

And as far as car accidents go, I once hit a guy in my car. Hit a pedestrian. I guess I might have gotten a ticket, but I honestly cannot remember. Didn’t get put in jail. Of course in my case the guy was okay, but I clearly broke the law and I hit a pedestrian while breaking the law in my car, and yet they didn’t throw the book at me. Is there no justice?

With the Laura Bush accident, perhaps the police had mercy on her because of the tragedy involved, and because of the (obvious) remorse of Laura Bush. I know that when I hit that guy I was so distraught and the policeman was really nice to me. I have no money or family connections (and I sure as hell wasn’t cute) and yet the police were very decent to me.

Which post?

Or if you mean ‘original post’ or ‘thread’, then you’d say so, right?

Otherwise you’d represent everything that’s wrong with the SDMB, wouldn’t you?

:dubious:

Amen to that.

Apparently not for the poor bastard you hit.

You don’t know anything about the “poor bastard that I hit” since I have not told you.

The insurance company took care of him very well and I did say he was “okay.” What part of “okay” isn’t clear to you?

Ahh, so you didn’t kill him. Your relevance is duly noted and refuted.
