Term for ''running out of internet''

I watched a program about the chance of internet ‘‘space’’ being finite, and once we post too many photos of our cats the internet will be clogged up or something, and basically die. I’m not so much interested in the topic, but they used a specific term for it… something data, maybe? I can’t remember. it was a two word phrase. Please tell me what it is! Thanks!

Probably too vague, unless someone has seen the same program recently.

Could it be quota instead of data? That word is often used to describe available space on a webserver.

It could have been quota, I really can’t remember.

There is zero chance that the internet will run out of photo storage space.

I’d guess that you are thinking of address exhaustion. Basically, every computer on the internet must have a unique address consisting of four numbers from 0-255. Thus there are 2^32 unique addresses, most of which are already allocated.

There are steps being taken to replace the current addressing system with a much larger address space.

It was along the lines of ‘‘address exhaustion’’, but shorter and snappier. It would fit quite well into a sci-fi movie… Sorry I’m so vague; my memory is not being helpful.

I can truly imagine an internet clogged up with cat videos.

You don’t have to.

Death by popularity for free services… basically.

If everyone on earth puts 9 gigabytes of files (each) into Google’s servers… where is Google going to find 100 billion gigabytes of storage space ?

They may have analogised “death by popularity” with wearing out or filling up… But the effect is there, that 1000 new cats is not a new sensation.

If your “social media” only provides 1000 more cats and dogs each day, then its not useful, right ?
And who’d want to here about that distant friend who’s being hounded by police on false accusations … its not 1984, that can’t happen.

Given bandwidth limitations, but the time all those files hit anywhere there would be enough space for them. I wonder how much storage there is in the world now? For the data I collect at work I control three disks a terabyte each (after compression) so that doesn’t seem like all that much data.

Peak data

PEAK DATA! YES! So simple! Thank you, PSXer! Much appreciated!

The term is used here talking about the wireless networks and EM spectrum being used to capacity. Is this the same thing? That actually makes sense, as opposed to the internet as a whole getting too full or whatever.

Well, OK. It seems I didn’t follow the program very well. Peak data was part of a story about the internet nearing full capacity.

You can always make the cells smaller and smaller with lower power and reuse the spectrum geographically. To increase the total wireless bandwidth.

You would have to load up your family in the rickety old truck and head west, looking for more internet.
