termites!!!

So does anyone know what termites look like?
How about formosian termites?

I might need a new house.

Try this link, labdude:

http://chowan.ces.state.nc.us/termite.html

It’s the North Carolina Extension office. I’m sure other states have this info available online, but this is the first that popped up in an Alta Vista image search.

Blah, if in doubt, go to the professionals: http://www.orkin.com

it has a bug guide

PS

Without knowing anything about your situation, I bet they are Carpenter Ants. They are much more common.

labdude, if you saw them crawling around on the ground or in your house, chances are they aren’t termites. Termites are subterranean insects and shun light and air. I don’t know where you live, but Formosan termites look a lot like Eastern Subterraneans (subtle differences in the head and body, but they look similar enough so that you won’t confuse them with, say, ladybugs or something).

If your house has experienced damage, or if you’re seeing a lot of crawly insects (and I concur that they may be carpenter ants), call in a professional to do a proper inspection. Orkin is good. Terminix is good, too (I oughta know – I work for them). Or find a local guy. Just make sure that whomever you call is licensed and certified for termite treatment (in other words, don’t ask your Uncle Ralph, cause once he had termites and therefore has more knowledge than you). In many instances, the inspection is free, and so is the estimate of the cost of any treatment.

It’s worth it for your peace of mind to find out if you have a problem and what it will take to fix it. An inspection by a trained professional is the way to go. Termite evidence is not always recognized by laypeople. But a professional inspector knows what to look for. It only takes a phone call.

Good luck.

It’s best to get

The Formosans or Taiwanese have beautiful eyes and … oh you are talking about termites? UGH!

You might not see no termites but you can see their eggs. tiny brown sacs in big piles.
I took one of those indoor foggers & put it in the attic, yeah cheap I know, but it seems to have done zee job.
