Terra Nova premiere 9/26

Are you going to watch this new show? Tune in tonight.

Yes, we are going to watch it. We have hopes. Maybe not high hopes, but hopes nonetheless.

Probably not. I hope they explain why they have to go back millions of years; 15,000 would be plenty.

You need to use much more energy to go to the closer past; the four-space curves have to be tighter, so that the Mesozoic is probably as close as they could reach given the mass being transposited.

Also, dinosaurs are cool.

I am probably not going to watch because I have no hope they will address or acknowledge any time travel paradoxes.

I wanted to watch but it’s on Monday. I’ve already given up Sing Off for my SyFy Mondays and now I’ll have to pass on Terra Nova. I blame SyFy. I was perfectly happy with my SyFy Fridays. Why’d they have to go and screw it up?

From what I’ve heard it gets mentioned then immediately hand-waved away.

Time travel? I kind of thought that it was going to be Earth 2-2.

Sure, I’ll watch, mainly for Stephen Lang. Might be good, who knows? Has to be better than reality TV and police procedurals.

I really hate that this is on against Monday Night Football. Still, through the miracle of DVR, I’ll record it to watch later. The Druidess really wants to see it, and she works late, so we’ll watch the recording either after she gets home or on another night.

Do you really want to be 20 million years before a massive extinction event that you know is coming?

Oh yeh. I’m a Spielberg shill, a time travel whore, and a dinosaur nut. It has all the elements for perfectly mediocre television that’ll be canceled after one season and end on an interesting cliff-hanger.

Can’t wait!

Wouldn’t 20 million years be enough time to develop the technology and infrastructure to do something about the K-T impact? We’ve had civilization for less than a thousandth of that time and today we are almost capable of deflecting an asteroid.

My objection to going back that far is that mammals are even around yet. And we’re mammals! Would our biology be compatible with Cretaceous flora and fauna? What about the host of bacteria we depend upon to live?

Guess I shouldn’t nit-pick. Look, a dinosaur!

Produced by Brannon Braga.

I stuck it out for half an hour, just to see if they didn’t have a scene that wasn’t a ridden with cliches like the meat on the Potemkin was riddled with maggots. No dice.

Wow was this awful. Science fiction at it’s absolute worst.

I hated the future. It was just like 2011, only futuristic.

And, so far, not liking the past. It’s all just so…expected. Tough talking leader, wanna’ bet he’s got a heart of gold? Rebellious teen boy. Cute little girl. Other teen daughter, waiting for growing pains story lines. Liked her “step on a butterfly” reference during the clunky exposition. “Don’t you know anything? Just like the audience. Here’s the Cliff Notes.” Lost-style mystery clues to end. Meh.

It’s just way to focus grouped and demographically targeted to be interesting. At the risk of sounding snobish, it’s aimed at dumb people.

Here’s hoping something surprising happens in the next hour.

It can only get better, right?

The Dinosaurs are apparently nearly invincible, that one Dino in the chase took at least 100 bullets and kept on coming without a scratch.

I’d like that a lot more than being 20 minutes before it.

Basically, yeah!

Meant to watch it, but didn’t think about it until I saw this thread. Will it be rerun anytime?

It was pretty awful wasn’t it? I mean, we were laughing at how BAD it was. Everything was so predictable. So many cliches.
