And imo, that’s the best way to deal with taunting, instead of with fines and suspensions. Let the players police it.
No, no, no. The best case scenario is that Terrell Owens has to run a crossing route over the middle, and John Lynch, or some other safety gets a nice running head start and plants his helmet between the numbers on T.O’s chest. Then, as T.O. is lying dazed (but not injured) on the turf, said defender reaches into T.O.'s sock, and signs T.O’s jersey.
Um, lieu?
I suspect that is your problem more than my post. Ion’t know exactly why you singled my post out, it wasn’t as egregious as some others…
Please don’t take my opinion so personally, it makes your reply seem even more immature than Owens’ acts. Though this is the Pit, your response to my opinion was unduly harsh. You’re really a pit bull hiding behind the anonymity of a computer and a username. I’m not impressed. Please take a few deep breaths and examine your puzzling need to lash out at people who don’t share your opinion.
Though I thought Owens’ antics were funny, I don’t and didn’t post that I approve of that behavior in general. It’s possible to think something that you don’t agree with is funny. No notion-adhering here. Your assumption about my opinion was flat out wrong.
Then you had the audacity to criticize how I raise my children. That is truly a juvenile and classless act on your part, to use your own words. You don’t know me or my children, and you are unbelievably out of line for bringing them into this. One thing I’m sure I’m going to try to raise them not to do, however, is go off like a shrill jackass over someone’s differing opinion.
The fact that I neglected to mention that Owens got attacked by a Dallas player after his act was not a matter of me having feces in my cranial area, it simply didn’t matter to me. How dare me.
I do agree with you on one point, though. I think the way Barry Sanders conducted himself once reaching the end zone was classy, and I wish more players today were like that. However, the TV networks and a lot of fans don’t, though, because there’s a close-up on every player who excessively celebrates making a tackle or making a first down. Apparently, not enough people complain about it for the league to ban it or the networks to not show it.
And no, I’m not going to go fuck myself, and save your vitriol for something more important than football.
And where are kids supposed to learn about sportsmanship and teamwork?
From watching the pros, therefore your post is irrelevant.
Oh, wait, you approve of what Owens did, 'cause the NFL is all about the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.
OH PLEASE.
Grow up.
Oh wait, that’ll never happen.
I just loved seeing Owens try and foist all of the blame/controversy over what HE did off on the media, calling the whole thing a “media invention.”
An Arky, upon reread it does appear I singled you out. Plus, you sound pretty damn level headed. My apologies.
I’ve spent the past week with a bunch of Cowboy haters and the shit gets really old.
Nothing personal, please accept my apology.
Apology accepted and no hard feelings, lieu.
…but I don’t like the Cowboys…
I thought the signing it was kind of silly and over the top.
But the reaction has been laugh out loud funny.
Carry on, Terrell.
Go Niners!
Hard core Niners fan here so take this with a grain of salt. WSLer according to every account I read, the victimized corner back and Owens communicated (read taunted each other) all week, and he was cool with Owens did (they share the same finacial adviser - the guy Owens gave the ball to). You’re blowing this wayyyyyy out of proportion.
And yes it is partially a media invention, as get ready for this, they keep showing it; writing about it; and generally behaving like well the media.
Honestly, people, what do you expect? He’s a Wide Receiver, for Pete’s sake.
I’ve felt terrible for the last several hours after rereading my initial post and realizing the effect it had on a respected poster here. An Arky, again, I’m sorry.
I let my indignation over the fact the Boys get frequently bashed manifest itself in a personal attack and that was soooo wrong. I do love my team and miss the living shit out of Landry, Garrison and Staubach. Your response and forgiveness are much appreciated.
I do hate taunting. I feel it’s classless and demeans the sport. I should have kept my emotions in check and, more importantly, focused.
BTW, the “shit for brains” reference was decidedly towards Owens. I’m sorry that wasn’t more obvious. It should have been Terrell flying to California to apologize instead of Steve to Florida.
I truly wish character could somehow be rewarded on the field, but then I guess, in actuality, it is it’s own reward.
Oh to have more players like Payton, Sayers, Piccolo and Sanders and less like Deion, Irvin, Romanowski, Moss and, affectionately, Owens.
Here’s to a fantasy league.
He was fined 25 grand for his antics in Dallas.
How about the Mile High Salute?
Yup. Stupid. As is (and it almost pains me to say this) the Lambeau Leap.
Cross the goal line. Say a quick prayer if you want. Flip the ball to the official. Jog off the field, or line up for the extra point. That’s it. Anything that calls attention to yourself is stupid. There were 10 other guys that helped you get in the end zone; making a big production when you score implies you did it yourself. Not good.
Where I thankfully have Terrell Owens on my roster. Now, if only they could make those NFL gamecasts show touchdown celebrations…
I’ll be watching Dec. 1st that should be a hell of a game.
T.O. plays the race card. Gee what a shock. Couldn’t be his fault or anything.
Classy guy.
So apparently Owens wants Ludacris, doing play-by-play/ color commentary, shouting for “The Bitches and ho’s to shake that ass up,” or some shite like that.
Stuffy,
So, do you think the other 60 odd members of the Seahawks–players/coaches/trainers, not to mention the 50,000+ fans thought it was hilarious and it wasn’t taunting?
Oh please.
I suppose that you think the hit that Leonard Marshall laid on Joe Montana back in the 91 NFC Championship game was a cheap shot, right?

No I have a different word for them: Sore Losers, particulary GM/Head-Coach Holmgren. Guess you gotta shift the focus right?
Straw man much? Good thing you used all those rollyeyes saving me from the trouble. Get over it man, it was a 30 second, if that, moment in time.
Uh, kids are supposed to learn about sportsmanship and teamwork from thier parents, teachers and coaches, not by watching sports on tv.
Atleast that’s where I learned it.
As a youth coach for 20 years, the first thing I talked about was sportsmanship and teamwork, the “There is no ‘I’ in team” speech.
Kids should not be told that watching sports on tv teaches you sportmanship and teamwork, because a most of it doesn’t.
These things are better learned on a personal level.
