Terror Alert Color Codes

Maybe a really stupid question, but for the last year or so we’ve had a color code system that defines the level of threat to the US. It just went up to Orange, the 2nd worst.

Down near the bottom is Green and Blue, but it’s never gone lower then Yellow(the middle one).

My question is: Why bother putting Green and Blue if it doesn’t look like the alert will ever be set to either level?

To show unending optimism that our most wonderful nation will someday be without worry or care.

Uh huh…

What does this even mean? We’ve only had this system since shortly after 9/11/2001. Of course the threat level will go down eventually. In case you hadn’t noticed, we’ve been rather embroiled in a little situation in the mideast for the last couple years, hence the elevated threat level. Why do you say it looks like the threat level will “never go down”?

I have a hard time forseeing any situation in which the threat level will ever be significantly lowered. Maybe if the middle east suddenly becomes a happy and peaceful place, but I don’t see that realitisically happening anytime soon. Even the capture or routing of Al Queda and Taliban assets seems to do little to provoke a downgrading of the threat level.

I think maybe you’re confusing the threat IN the mideast with the threat FROM the mideast. The color-coded threat level thingie doesn’t care if various middle eastern countries want to kill each other, it’s only concerned with the level of threat directed at US. There might never be peace in the mideast, but eventually, they’ll all get pissed off at someone else instead and we can go down to Blue or Green.

We are unlikely to ever drop to the blue or green level. More likely, the level will eventually get stuck at the yellow level for many months or years, then the whole system will slowly fade from memory.
