Terry Pratchett again: Soul Music is driving me nuts

I have to confess I’m one of these people who can read and re-read a Terry Pratchett book and STILL find new references every time. And I’ve just finished Soul Music for about the sixth time and there’s one reference which bugs me every time. It’s with the names of all the rock groups he gets in there, I recognise the Who(m) and Insanity and Def Leppard and the Grateful Dead (Death) but what’s with the Surreptitious Fabric? Who or what is that supposed to be?

Velvet Underground.

According to L-Space (check out their annotation section!), there’s a group in SM called something like “Yes, we are dwarves, really” that’s a take-off on They Might Be Giants, which happens to be one of TP’s favorite groups.

That’s “We’re certainly dwarves”

Script Analyst, you must, immediately, remove the flying stars from your website. No questions asked, no ifs, ands or buts. Et cetera! Et cetera! Et cetera!

Please, in the name of all that is good and holy in this world, get rid of them. The power of Christ compels you!

Wha…?

Crash: Yeah, but my dad said that a rolling stone gathers no moss.

I love L-space.

Thanks Qadgop.

Let me recommend L-Space again, particularly the annotated Pratchett section.. There’s a whole section devoted just to “Soul Music.”

Thanks Pesch!

That’s the best link I have seen in ages!
