Tesla Cybertruck

I have stolen this picture from my profile. Thank you.

Give me something like that in a brown, black, and white dog/wolf motif instead of a stupid pink cat, and I’m in! :dog:

I have many emotions about that. I’m not sure happy is one of them, but it certainly is something.

Sorry, I couldn’t resist. More at the Bing link.

Oooh – that’s my car! I’d buy that!

“On second thought , let’s not go to Camelot the SDMB. ‘Tis a silly place”

Of course there’s a wrap for the eel on musk fanboys.

I haven’t been following this thread but I’m jumping in here because yesterday at Hollister Hills, an off-road park just south of San Francisco, there were 3 Cybertrucks there testing and practicing its trail capabilities. I had to stop and take some pictures.

Here are all my pictures and a couple of brief videos. You’ll have to bear with me as my video skills aren’t great.

So how did you think it looks in person as opposed to images?

It’s unique, for sure. The Cybertruck is a styling trailblazer and in the coming years we will see other manufacturers with designs more along its same vein. Definitely futuristic.

At the Los Angeles Auto Show in November, a Bay Area company called Aitekx displayed a truck that looks a lot like the Cybertruck, though even uglier. Personally, I hope this branch of vehicular evolution dies quickly.

I saw my first one in the wild yesterday in SoCal. I took a slight turn in the road and it was suddenly 50 yards in front of me headed my way. No perfect lighting or camera angles, just instant, real world, pure gut impression.

It looked cheap. Like something someone had built in their garage. The lighting maybe looked a little futuristic but sort of a bland, Soviet brutalism version of the future.

Well as Rory driving Trail Mater says, if you’re not doing the obstacle backwards, you’re not doing it.

Did they just get turned around, or was going backwards deliberate? I guess it would be hard for you to know.

That’s a pretty good description.

A neighbor has had a Hummer H2 for many years. They were manufactured 2002-2009. They came out over 20 years ago. He recently bought a Hummer EV. A nice detail — it has the American flag at the top of the C pillar.

All pics here —

Reports that they are already rusting:

The rear ¾ angle has got to be the least aesthetic view of what only a mother could love.

Musk musta been stoned outta his gourd when he said,
“Yeah. I like it. Build it. And pass me that joint, will ya?”

?

Nvm, doesn’t preview correctly

I agree the CTruck is ugly, but if it gets more ICE trucks off the road, I’m not going to complain.

However, if you want an ugly EV, try the BMW i4:

Why in hell does it have that massive faux grill? They could save lots of manufacturing costs while improving mileage by getting rid of it. Reminds me of the Edsel.

I’m a BMW fan.

Starting about 3 years ago they put those large tall grilles on many of their ICE models. They’re butt-ugly IMO, and a total styling mistake. But ISTM they were reacting to the Lexus ever-more exaggerated snarling Darth Vader look and all the aggressive grills on pickup trucks. It seems the market research is showing that the fatcats and the poseurs want a car that growls “I’m an aggressive prick” regardless of their gender.

Anyhow, as ugly as that grill is, it’s no different from the ICE version.

ISTM EV makers have a problem. We expect cars to have cooling inlet grilles dominating the front. When Tesla left those off the Model 3 the result was something that resembles an antique Dutch wooden shoe. Totally not a good look. Also, EVs actually do need some air cooling inlets for various needs, albeit not as much as an ICE needs.

As well, if you’re going to have a usefully deep “frunk”, that sets up a tall compartment there which means a tall front face, whatever you put on it.

It’ll be interesting to watch the next 10 years as carmakers and the public converge on what a typical EV nose “should” look like. We sure don’t have consensus now.
