Test thread #2

http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=59442

Ok, what I’m trying to figure out is how a link to another page is done without showing the entire address.
Example, in a thread there will be ‘click ‘here’ to see this thread’, the ‘here’ will be hilighted, but the url is not shown.
Please educate me, how is this done ?

If you click on the little link at the bottom of this page labelled “vB code” it will take you to this page. Look in the section named “URL Hyperlinking”.

To see how I just made that link, you can click on the quote icon at the bottom to this post and look at the codes involved.

To link to your Test Thread #1, you would type:
Test Thread #1
and it would come out looking like this:
Test Thread #1.

Hope that helped.

{url=“http://www.cnn.com”}Click here to see the CNN Website!{/url}

Replace the {} with . Then you get:

Click here to see the CNN Website!

Ok, I get it. Thank you Coldfire. I’ll get the hang of all this eventually.

Oh, by the way, should I go to the Pit and start whineing about that you closed my first test thread. Not that I want to, it just seems to be standard practice 'round here.

That was a cute trick to get the ['s and ]'s to appear correctly without having to use {'s and }'s.

Verry nice. One smart cookie.

testing

still testing

I’d advice against it.

I closed it before I read the #2 thread. That explained your motives why you posted #1. Sorry about that - but you could still link to it, so no harm done, right?

Might as well test this out here:

Be warned! If you don’t use quotes around your URL and you use two or more in the same post, the system swallows up the text in between.

See the quote above, here’s what it actually says:

The only difference is that I added the quotes around the URL.
