This has annoyed me for a long time, so thanks for informing the CBC folks of this deficiency. My experience has been that many small websites don’t have the proper information in their interface for Discourse to create the Onebox preview, but most major ones do. It’s surprising that this was overlooked at cbc.ca.
Huh. That is interesting. I didn’t notice any missing og meta tags. But looking at the source of the Yahoo page, I notice it has the og:image:type and the image dimensions (og:image:width and og:image:height). But surely those wouldn’t be required.
The only other thing is the addition of a data-rh property in each meta og tag. But that shouldn’t impact anything, and is common on any site that uses React.
Anyways, thought I’d post my observations here just in case they were useful. I was curious myself.
Is there some messed up localization? The headline says something about Canada providing US$, but according to the first sentence there are no US$, or CAD for that matter— they are providing UAH. Then clicking on the actual article says that they are really providing CAD (which seems to be the truth).
