I guess you can take the person outta Usenet, but you can’t take Usenet outta the person ![]()
Heck yeah. I still read Usenet, but I’ve always used a GUI reader (TB).
Never mind ![]()

How are people putting in a musical notes symbol without using the emojis (
)?
I keep forgetting there are emojis. I copy and paste from here.
Ah. Thanks! ✓
Cool!
ETA: hmm that looked good on preview, but came out whack!
I keep a note on my phone that has some miscellaneous characters, and I’ll copy and paste from there when I need them. It has things like music symbols ♫ ♪ ♬ ♩, and other miscellaneous characters such as subscripts ₀ ₁ ₂ ₃ ₄ ₅ and superscripts ¹ ² ³ ⁴, and fractions like ⅛ ¼ ⅓ ⅜ ½ ⅝ ⅔ ¾ ⅞.
Unicode’s weird! The same symbols can have different variations:
And then if you enter the emoji variant, different operating systems (or apps, like Discourse) will display their own interpretation of it:
So what you see on preview is probably not the same as what Discourse renders (they normalize it), and is probably not the same as what another person would see if you typed the same symbol to them on your phone…
Side note: It’s even worse with faces, lol… like what the hell does this mean:
The “ommmmmmg” Whatsapp version is so different from the “rolls eyes” Twitter version is so different from the Google “please don’t kill me” version.
USA Today has a printable copy of the odds list and post positions for the 2026 Kentucky Derby:
With odds and gates the current favorites are:
| Odds | Gate | Horse |
|---|---|---|
| 4-1 | 1 | Renegade |
| 6-1 | 6 | Commandment |
| 6-1 | 18 | Further Ado |
| 8-1 | 12 | Chief Wallabee |
| 10-1 | 9 | The Puma |
| 15-1 | 15 | Emerging Market |
| 15-1 | 8 | So Happy |
Same as always. Follow the recipe for 100% success, or not for 100% failure.
Testing an image post, which has not been working for me in another thread.
The image displays when clicked, but doesn’t onebox. Which is weird.
Yeah, I can’t figure out why the inline preview is not working. I will probably have to try a different hosting site.
Strange, yes. What device are you using? Laptop? Tablet? Phone? And what OS?
Macbook, Chrome browser (up to date).
But don’t waste any more time on this. I switched to using postimages.com and it worked perfectly the first time, so I’m just going with that moving forward.
