@Pardel-Lux - I’m seeing the complete image - can you? (in other words, is the full image publically viewable - yours is). From the TELEPHONE with crown above at the top; to the top half of my bike at the bottom?
I should add, as something resembling public service, the excitement here is about stopping image storing services from cropping the image when it is posted to the SDMB. So let’s have an explanation of how it was done actually posted to this thread. I use google photos.
On my desktop I opened the google photos app and opened a photo
Rather than trying to share the photo I right clicked and selected Copy Image Address - which is about 10 lines long
I pasted the image address into this post, and it shows the full, uncropped image.
If anyone is aware of a reason I should’t do this (eg insecure, could cause unexpected issues etc), please let me know and I’ll try to figure out some remedial action.
On IMGUR, right click or long press to bring up a menu of options. Choose “open in new tab”. The go to the new tab and copy that URL then post the URL and it won’t be cropped.
Imgur is easier than Google Images, it seems to me. The URL is shorter anyway, if that means something.
In general, opening a desktop app isn’t going to give you a URL that is accessible from the internet. In your specific case though, you Google Photo app did give you an internet-accessible URL, so that’s fine.
I don’t know if Google has changed their policy, but it used to be that hotlinking like this would only work for a short time. After that, the super-duper-long URL that you copied will no longer work. I guess we can wait and see with the image you posted.
I personally use IMGUR and it gives you links that you can copy and paste. Those tend to be more permanent.
Now I can’t see it either, the link is very short lived indeed.
I guess I should have used another image for my experiment, it came from the Pit and I did not think. Sorry!
ETA: It was not even the Pit, but still. Bad judgement.
