Test your 80s knowledge

A slightly different quiz perhaps, but I present you with the Brunching Shuttlecocks’ Smartass Answers to the 80s Quiz

Same score, same conclusion.

I got 77. That test is TOTALLY CULTURALLY BIASED, man. I grew up listening to rap and hip-hop in the 80s, man. That music section killed me. Not ONE rap question in the entire bunch! Duran Duran? Depeche Mode? Men Without Hats? How the fuck would I know which band member Boy George was (reportedly) sleeping with? How am I supposed to know that “I’m turning Japanese” was about masturbation? Grrr. We had one oblique question about “Thriller.”

There were no Cosby Show questions! There were no questions about B.A. Baracus! Nothing about the Fat Boys movies, Berry Gordy’s “The Last Dragon” or the name of the black actress in the “Thriller” video. They didn’t even reference Menudo or La Bamba! Did we really need multiple questions about “Cheers,” “Back to The Future” and “Alf?”

I wuz robbed!

  1. They tell me I should play more Pac Man. Which I played a lot of. All in all, not too bad for someone who graduated in '74.

Well, holy shit. I got 100.

“Members Only - Perfect score! I bet you can finish a Rubik’s Cube with your legwarmers tied behind your back!”

Helps that I was a very inquisitive and impressionable child during the 80s.

However, I also need to get out more. Way more.

Woot, a 93, Gold Cube, I’m Rad-ilicious; “Good job. . .you’re so godo you can actually gag a spoon!”

I actually knew about 70 of the answers so I felt pretty good about it, the rest were either guesses or ones I just sort of “felt out” from vague memories.

This is where I gave up. In addition to the grotesque spelling, according to VH1’s *True Spin* show, “Turning Japanese” was not about masturbation (which does upset me because I like the song better that way). The right answer (“falling in love”) was an option, so I picked it, and then I got mad and quit.

But I was kicking ass, till then.

67 - wooden cube. I agree that there were entire genres that were completely ignored - what about post-punk and new wave, Run-DMC, breakdancing or pop that was actually popular (Lisa Lisa and the Cult Jam, Tiffany, Debbie Gibson, “Pop goes the world,” “Safety Dance,”) god help us all? Too many TV questions. And horrible, horrible spelling. But a fun way to waste time.

So I swallowed my spelling-Nazi pride and took the rest of the test, I got a 92.

  1. Also a “Brat-Packian”

I’m not sure how to feel about this… :dubious:

I got a 74, and Brat Packian. What killed me were the cartoon related t.v. questions.

I scored a 45 which isn’t bad for someone who wasn’t even born until the late 80’s.

  1. The cartoon questions and everything Brat pack kicked my ass.

I did ace the music though!

62- I aced the music and “other” sections, but I performed poorly on the TV and movies section.

All in all, not too bad a showing for a man born midway through the decade.

94, rad-ilicious. Cartoons and masturbation…grrr.

71 - Brat Packin’. The cartoon questions are what really messed me up.

Only a 68 Knight Rider
No so good…Maybe you should play a little more Pac-Man?

78 Brat Packian Silver Cube
Not bad…Are you sure you’re not related to Molly Ringwald?

I might have done a little better if a took a couple seconds to think about some of the questions, a few times I realized I was clicking the wrong answer a nanosecond after clicking.

I’m a 75 and a silver cubed Brat Packian.
