Test your 80s knowledge

  1. I didn’t watch TV during the '80’s. The music questions were stupid, IMO.

I agree, Askia. They sampled a bunch of movies–Breakfast Club, St. Elmo’s Fire, Sixteen Candles]–but they were all in the same genre. And although I’m a fan of Duran Duran and the Culture Club, it wouldn’t have killed them to put in more trivia from other genres.

They need a black version of this test.

  1. Which movie features a jheri-curl-wearin’ shogun?

  2. I’m scratching a Buddhist prayer wheel like it’s a record. Who am I?

  3. Who rapped about brass monkeys and fighting for the right to party?

  4. What’s the name of the dance named after a popular doll of the 80s?

  5. Who was Prince’s rival in Purple Rain?

  6. What character says “jamming on the one” in front of Stevie Wonder?

  7. Who played Willis’s girlfriend on Diff’rent Strokes?

The test needs shit like this to be legit, man.

I got a 66. Damn all internet tests to hell.

Just 55 for me. I think I missed all but one in the TV section …

  1. Apparently I wasn’t watching enough tv in the 80s (I’m sure my parents would’ve loved that argument: “But Moooommmm, I need to stay up just a little bit longer so I can ace a quiz on the internet in 20 years.”) Good to know I wasn’t the only one breathing a sigh of relief when the music section finally came up.

I got 69, platinum cube - Members Only

I got murdered on the TV section, I wasn’t allowed to watch TV as a kid. I got a few right about Fraggle Rock, The Smurfs, Growing Pains, and a few obvious ones but that’s about it. Thank goodness for movies and music.

67/100. I found one question that wasn’t right, though I managed to guess the correct answer for that one anyway. It asked “Who was the leader of the Transformers?” and gave both Megatron and Optimus Prime as options. They were the leaders of their respective rival factions (Decepticons/Autobots) but AFAIK neither were ever the leader of the Transformer community as a whole.

  1. I’m so disappointed. It was the tv section that did me in, too - I’ve never seen an episode of many of those question shows, in spite of the fact I graduated high school in '84.

57 - Knight Rider, Wooden Cube.

I was born in '81, and the group of people who would be watching He-Man, Thundercats and The Smurfs does not overlap much with those watching Cheers, Taxi, and Growing Pains.

Not too horrid, considering I was born in 86 and grew up on far more classical music and PBS than whatever godawful 80’s pop and Cartoon Network.

68/100. I missed most of the music ones, did fairly well on the others.

  1. I missed all the damn cartoon questions. I never watched cartoons.

Predator?

Murray Head!

The Beastiality Boys, duh!

The Worm?..we were poor.

Acid Rain.

I forget his name, but he’s the guy with one testicle.

Easy, Gary Coleman.
What do I win?

I got 90/100. I’m rad-ilicious! Now for monstro’s test. FTR, I’m extra super white.

  1. The Last Dragon, sho’nuff!!
  2. Eddie Murphy, in The Golden Child
  3. The Beastie Boys
  4. The Cabbage Patch
  5. Morris Day and the Time
  6. Theo Huxtable
  7. Janet Jackson

I’m ready for my afro Mr. Demille!

I only got 56 right. Could that be because I was born in 1980 and don’t remember the first 5-6 years of the 80s??

  1. Spoon gagger. Ha Ha.

I went to college in the 80’s and had much fun. The only TV I watched was lunchtime at the Pizza Hut and it was always on MTV. At least I got the news events right, I just missed all the TV, most of the movie, and maybe a third of the music stuff.

84, but I was class of '88 and a latchkey kid so I have an edge.

I would have expected better from someone actually named for a minor 80’s icon.

I got an 85. And yes, their spelling is horrid.

You absolutely got flava, Dante. Hella flava.

monstro, I am so impressed with your example, I have decided to take heed.
