So, lessee…it’s now Monday again… Saudi Arabia is promising that if the U.N. approves action, U.S can use S.A. bases. Saddam has not yet tendered an offer of open inspections, so some hope that unilateral action by U.S. will not take place. A vote by congress seems moot ahead U.N. deliberations. Dow is down 40 points. ORCL is still a buy.
And it’s still not too late to do some genital comparison shopping!

Damn, it’s back. I thought they’d gone to ppv and I hadn’t paid.
Darn. I spent a few hours researching one of the posts I made… I should have expected to be screwed, though.
Um, that really doesn’t explain what happened, only why threads are missing. So what happened? Gerbils beat up the hamsters? Hamsters go on strike and picket? Ed Zotti stick his tongue in the light socket?
The posts I made during that time were so brilliant that, had they been preserved, would have obliterated all ignorance from the universe.
It’s just as well they were lost, because you guys would have hated me after the board was shut down because it was no longer needed.
We tried to talk him into that, but ever since we left him stuck to the flagpole last January and all went in for hot cocoa, he’s really been on his guard.
It’s darn good to be back!
As I was leaving work on Monday afternoon at 5:15 I restarted the server just like I have hundreds of times in the past when it looks like things have gotten a little out of whack. This time however the database didn’t shutdown correctly and one of the major tables got corrupted. The end result was thread replies weren’t getting updated in the forum listings as well as a few other things. I noticed this about 9:00 PM in the evening and mucked around a bit to try to fix it from home. No go.
Come Tuesday morning I started to try to fix the problem by just repairing the specific database corruption. After running a database corruption fixing program for over 6 hours with NO IDEA how much longer it might take or whether or not that approach would even be successful I decided to pull the plug. So for the next 49 hours we were restoring the most recent valid backup of 3.8 GBs worth of data. Took forever. Did I know it was going to take forever? No, mercifully my senility is kicking in more and more and I tend to forget how long it takes to do a complete restore of this board.
I deleted that test thread so you aren’t imagining things. It was here and then it left.

Kinda reminds me of the skies over the U.S. after the World Trade Center/Pentagon attacks last year. For a few days, there wasn’t a single plane cluttering the wild blue yonder. It was eerie in its emptiness.

The explanation as posted is bogus.
What really happened is that spooje agreed with me on something, and it caused the server to crash.
Next week, Stoid will bear my love child, His4ever and gobear will announce their engagement, Esprix will give up being faaaabulous and and open a thread entitled “Ask the Ex-Gay Guy”, december and I will announce that we are joining Islamic Jihad, and Jack Chick will post that he was kidding all along.
And civilization as we know it will come to an end.
