Testing fontypoos

Helllo

And, after over 5000 posts and nearly two years of membership Lobsang finally discovers that he can specify almost any font in his posts!

(Of course, he realizes that those viewing the post need to have the particular font installed on their computer)

This is an ultra ultra cool font!

  1. If you click “Quote” under Lobsang’s post, you’ll see the coding in the post reply box. In this case, he’s used Comic Sans and Monotype Corsiva.

  2. A search on the internet for “free fonts” will usually turn up a font you particularly want, if available, for download.

The greatest commandment of the Straight Dope Message Board (in old English lettering, I hope):

Thou shalt not be a jerk.

I thought Monotype Corsiva was one of the standard fonts. I Guess it’s not. At work my OP looks all cool and old-englishy. At home it… doesn’t.

I’ve got Monotype Corsiva on my computer, Lobsang. It does look stylish, mate. And I thought it was fairly standard with MS Office too. Oh, well …

The size of the font in the OP reflects the fact that Monotype Corsiva is virtually unreadable at normal sizes, and it doesn’t look too large at what I set it at (whereas the font it is replaced with on computers lacking Corsiva looks huge)

Mac owners - how does my OP appear for you? Do macs have the same or similar set of fonts?

How’s this for a cool old-looking font?
Supposedly it was inspired by the writing on the Bayeux tapestry.

(It’s “King Harold” font, in case you can’t see it right.)

I usually just go hunt around on Google for things that sound similar to what I was looking for- like “bayeux tapestry font” was what I used to find this one.

Er, bump? You realise that if people don’t have that font installed on their own machines they won’t see it, right? As a non-standard font that I’ve never heard of, “King Harold” just renders as plain old Verdana on my PC and laptop.

VATO LOCO!

Unfortuantely, not everybody has 400 or 500 fonts installed, or otherwise we could have some fun.

Fraktur would really come in handy for thread-killing posts about Hitler, or just for discussing the History Channel.

For the curious:
King Harold font

And Fraktur.

I don’t really care how many really cool, snazzo fonts you guys download. All that appears here, as Crusoe said, is Verdana.

Sig Test.

I know… that’s why I mentioned the font name right afterwards.

I thought we were just trading nifty fonts here!

Well, thanks for that, bump. Interesting fonts, there. But in trading fonts, what’s the point if no one else can see them without that download?
