isn’t it true darker skinned people have higher test. levels than fair skinned people? especially certain races such as african americans? maybe not just test. levels but better body chemistry for BodyBuilding?
the really dark guys i see in the gym are generally slightly bigger compared to the average fair dude… even in the NFL, most of the white guys are smaller, granted there are some white guys who are just as big, but they are always not as cut.
any specific studies or documentation on a statistical correlation between:
dark skin and test. levels/body chemistry conducive with hypertrophy.
race and test. levels/body chemistry conducive with hypertrophy.
I Googled “skin color hypertrophy” and found a study from 1965 that purported to showed a correlation between skin color and ventricular hypertrophpy, which is a heart condition. However, I have no clue as to whether more recent studies have confirmed this or not.
But that’s not what you’re talking about, is it? What you wanna talk about is, “Isn’t it true that black guys are bigger and stronger than white guys”?
No, it isn’t true.
You are aware, aren’t you, that the NFL cannot be considered a good sample group, that the NFL isn’t representative of the population at large?
You are also aware, aren’t you, that the group known as “the guys I see at the locker room” cannot be considered a good sample group, that they aren’t representative of the population at large?
i’m sorry, i wrote this question down very quickly. i should not have included NFL in this question, they are all juiced and are most importantly a non-random population.
in my first post i did mention Bodybulding. so that means skeletal muscle hypertrophy.
what i am asking here is for documented blood tests, not conjecture. there are too many variables that we are dealing with here in this question for speculation and theory and intuition.
the answers are in some huge medical database somewhere and probably not pre-organized for this exact question, but might be able to produce the answer with the right technology. the internet is not helping me with my research so far, so i was hoping someone could help me here. thanks in advance.
DDG: i never asked if black guys are bigger than whites. i didn’t even imply that. i asked about serum t levels and other hormones. i merely mentioned the “guys in the gym” because that’s what inspired me to ask this question.
Fuel, short version:
DDG’s about got it. Slightly longer version:
Endocrinologists cared about the questions you are asking back in the 50’s and 60’s. The data on testosterone is out there, I have seen it, but that was 15 years ago, in an old book, at a university library 500 miles away. Whatever that data says, and I don’t recall, its validity all needs to be reevaluated in terms of what is now known about “race” as well as the known effects of nutrition, age, time of day, stress, immune function, and etc. on testosterone levels. There were lots of things that were not known, or controlled for, when the studies were originally done. I very much doubt that there are any modern studies; people have more interesting fish to fry.
This should have stayed in General Questions, as there is a factual answer to it. I do think the poster asked the question in a round about way. He should have just asked if blacks have higher testosterone than whites.
A question which I know the answer to, but I won’t give, since I don’t have cites.
So, there’s the original study, but as far as I can tell, nobody has it posted online, although I’m only using Google. Possibly somebody with access to more serious medical databases can find it.
