Texas Democrats: you've gotta be fucking kiddin me

As this most clearly demonstrates.

Your obstinance would approach nobility, Dewey, if these people had any honest claim to such loyalty.

One wonders how you reach that conclusion. It isn’t like the DPS has been tight-lipped and the press had to root out that one brave soul who wanted to tell the whole story. The DPS has been entirely forthcoming on this matter.

Here we go again.

At least this time they had the fucking good sense not to go to Oklahoma.

Yeah, I kinda wondered about Oklahoma myself.

This time, they seemed to have planned better.

Wonder what Gov. Perry and Tom DeLay are going to do about it THIS time?

Oh, for crying out loud.

Don’t they know you’re supposed to head across the border to Mexico?

Mexico, you fucking idiots, MEXICO.

Say it with me. M. E. X. I. C. O. MEXICO.

I could understand if they screwed up once and got confused and went the wrong direction. But twice? It is getting harder and harder believing these people are true Scotsmen, I mean Texans.

I’m with Lemur. If it was me, I’d be spending the next 30 days in Cozumel. Plus, Mexico has way better beer than New Mexico.

Ever get the feeling that history doesn’t repeat so much as circles the drain?

I normally tire of summer re-runs…but in this case i’ll make an exception!

A special session JUST for re-districting? No wonder they ran again.

A SECOND special session just for re-districting. The pubbies couldn’t get it out of committee on the first go, so they’re changing the rules in order to try AGAIN.

If we threaten Democrats with re-districting in 2004 will they run away and not visit the polls?

Can we at least try it? Pwease?

I think that the Democrats just got the Libertarian vote in Texas.
“Not only will we not do anything, we will prevent anyone else from doing anything, as well!”

Congressmen? I hope you are paying attention?

And even more scurry away. Now both houses lack a quorum.

If this starts happening more often, I’m investing in luxe hotels just over the state border.

Bah, Holiday Inn is hardly a “luxe hotel”. Plus, your earlier cite mentioned that neither had a quorum.

Enjoy,
Steven

Maybe with some luck the fleeing legislators will stay in New Mexico long enough so that they lose their Texas residency.

Jeez, I hope not.

The whole reason the Republicans are trying to pass the redistricting bill is that the Republicans feel that the current districting system is unfair to Republicans, that it does not accurately reflect the will of the people. Apparently, they feel some major changes have happened since the 2000 census, which was when the districts were last reapportioned.

…despite the fact that the same districts they’re trying to rearrange to bolster their own strength…

…elected a Republican majority in the Texas House and Senate, contributed largely to the Republican majority in the U.S. Congress, and voted in (durn near unanimously) a Republican United States President.

One is very much inclined to wonder what the Texas Republicans’ view of “unfair to Republicans” is.

…aside from “allowing Democrats to vote or participate in government at all…”

Sheez. Maybe the GOP should make straight-ticket voting mandatory.

And Soup_du_jour takes the prize! You see, the entire heart of the “the federal house districts are unfair, the voting for Republicans for state offices proves it!” hinges on the idea that people don’t split tickets. The people of Texas have spoken, they voted for Republicans for local offices, Republicans for Governor, Federal Senators, and Lt Gov. BUT, the people, the ones that are the “we” in that whole “we the people” thing, CHOSE to send Democrats to Congress. Why is that this decision is up for questioning? Why is the “they voted Republicans for local office” canon and obviously a proper reflection of the voter’s desires, but if those same votors tick the box for a Democrat they must have been the victims of a vicious conspiracy to enfranchise the Democrats at the expense of the voter’s true desires?

Bullshit, all of it. Beat them the old fashioned way. Run candidates that can freaking win. Republicans bitching about losing all those seats in Congress to the Democrats kind of falls flat when you consider that they didn’t even field a candidate against five of those seventeen Democrats in the last election.

Enjoy,
Steven
