Texas state lawmaker calls for "praying for protection" instead of gun reform...

…in wake of mass shooting.

There are no words.

Oh, he’s got plenty of words. He’s saying go with god. Translation: ignore it and read a fairy tale.

I wish I could say that was shocking. I didn’t read the article, but I’m putting my money on: Prayer, rather than action=Republican.
How did I do? Don’t need answer fast.

Studies have shown that the only real difference between the US and other countries which do not have these mass shootings is the number of guns. Weird, huh? I just don’t know what to make of it.

I don’t suppose he and his constituents would go in for merely praying to end abortion and leaving us the fuck alone…

Sure there are. Here are some:

Texas loosens firearm laws hours after the state’s latest mass shooting left 7 dead
“The laws will further loosen gun restrictions in a state that’s had four of the 10 deadliest mass shootings in modern US history, including the El Paso shooting last month, when a gunman stormed a Walmart and killed 22 people.”

From the link.

For an all powerful being, God has been pretty useless so far.

“Thoughts and prayers? Too much work.”

Taking proactive steps to assure their place at the top of that dubious record…

Um, about that whole God transforming hearts with evil intent bit

I guess the U.S. must be far more depraved than all other First World nations combined, then.

Or maybe, regardless of the “root” of the problem, other countries, regardless of how godless and depraved the hearts of their citizens might be, have found effective ways of dealing with the bloody symptoms.

Just two more thoughts, as someone who’s known the Lord for just shy of 49 years:

First, as I see it, God has filled us with His spirit so that WE can be His presence in the world. (I’m not always good at that.) Prayer is all well and good, and I’m all for it, but if there’s stuff I can DO, then God expects me to do it.

What this guy is doing is like saying, “I’m not going to buy a pair of eyeglasses, because I’m praying for God to restore my 20-20 vision.” Or maybe closer to “I’m going to outlaw eyeglasses, contact lenses, and laser eye surgery, because everyone needs to pray to God and rely on Him to restore their vision.”

Second:

So, as an alleged Christian, he believes access to AR-15s and high-capacity magazines, and freedom from background checks and the like, have a greater value in God’s eyes than the lives of the people who get shot and killed.

There’s your real taking God’s name in vain AFAIAC - invoking God in defense of evil.

Where does the Bible give people the right to own military weapons? Chapter and verse, please.

I believe it’s in the Book of Armaments.

Are we characters in a satire?

It makes sense, though – when you finally get every last man, woman, and child of 30 million Texans running around armed to the teeth with automatic weapons – plus probably a good percentage of their dogs, too – only good things can happen. Might even be possible to ease off on the prayin’ a bit, what with all those “good guys with guns” shootin’ up the place and keepin’ the peace.

I don’t know whether it was the columnist and famous Texas native Molly Ivins or Dave Barry who said about Texans, “it must be something in the water”. Actually it was probably a whole lot of people who said that over the years.

Somewhere towards the back…

There are thoughts and there are prayers. But they don’t come from the same people.

Can I pray for better gun control?

Chapter 2, Verses 9-21

“‘And Saint Attila raised the hand grenade up on high, saying, "O Lord, bless this Thy hand grenade that with it Thou mayest blow Thine enemies to tiny bits, in Thy mercy.’ And the Lord did grin, and people did feast upon the lambs, and sloths, and carp, and anchovies, and orangutans, and breakfast cereals, and fruit bats, and large --”

Zardoz your God gave you the gift of the gun! The gun is good! The penis is evil!
