A gunman has fired on churchgoers in Texas
Early reports are up to 24 dead.
At least 27 dead, according to current reports.
Just another day in the land of the free.

Will there be a multiple-victim shooting every day from now on?

It is a shame we know what to do.
The President, Government and various worthies will offer their prayers. We will start a Go Fund Me site. We will build a memorial with balloons and teddy bears. The reporters will get someone on tape saying “now is not the time…” Someone will be interviewed using the word “resilient.” There will be a candlelight march. Shirts will say “Sutherland Springs Strong.”
Then it will happen again.
This is the sad reality.
The alt-right and their media will lose their minds if the shooter is foreign, Muslim, or a Democrat. Otherwise it’ll get a short blurb (probably explaining why the shooter isn’t a “true” Christian), or nothing at all.
I can’t reply to this without starting up a diatribe about America, guns and freedom, so I’ll leave it there.
Done.
Strength and prayer seem to be the only virtues that get expressed anymore.
Seems it is never the right time for any others.
“Sutherland Springs is about 21 miles east of Downtown San Antonio and according to the latest data has a population of about 643.”
A few more details here. Still nothing on the identity of the shooter except that he was male and not a member of the small, 50-member church.
Looks like Sutherland Springs is a very small rural town. Wikipedia says “According to the Handbook of Texas, the population was 362 in 2000.” I’ve seen reports of 27 dead and 24 wounded, out of a normal Sunday congregation of 50-60. Virtually everyone there got shot. I suspect most of the people in town will have been pretty directly affected by this.
Statistically, we already average a mass shooting (defined as more than four people killed or injured) every day in the US. The national media doesn’t bother covering most of them. We’re quick to demand sweeping policy changes when we classify deaths as terrorist acts, but we lose many more people to shootings.
It’s on tape.
The church videotapes its services every Sunday and places the video on FB/YouTube. Looks like it’s a single camera, only one perspective, manually operated.
There have been 2 fewer mass shootings than there have been days so far in 2017.
This is God’s answer to all these prayers - there is no more clearer evidence that prayer doesn’t work.
Way the hell too soon.
Most of them involve people who are related or otherwise know each other, and are frequently catalyzed by drugs and/or alcohol.
I suspect that the gunman’s motive will be one of the strangest yet. I mean, a small rural CHURCH? I have heard conflicting reports as to whether he knew any of the victims, or even parishioners who may or may not have been there.
I also knew the news wouldn’t be good when CNN went live two hours after it happened, with very sketchy information.
Last weeks upload has the pastor (? I don’t know much about churches) going on about physics and his motorbike.
What a damn shame
It’s being pointed out that today is the eighth anniversary of the Fort Hood shooting. Same day of the year, same state and even roughly the same part of the state. They’re looking into any significance there, I’m sure.
And reported.
