Texas Sweets.

This is probably a strange request, but does anybody know where I can order some Texas Sweets (1015’s) onions online? Now’s the season, but I can’t find a seller.
I had these (raw) in a sandwich when I was in Texas a few years ago, and they were delicious. I want more.

Not online, but by mail or phone:

There’s lots of great sweet onions. If you can get some Vidalias, do - they’re the champagne of sweet onions. Here’s a site that lists the different types. If you have a gourmet shop in town you should be able to get one type of sweet onion or other year round. They’re the only kind I eat. Depending on which grocer you shop at, you might find them in your regular grocery store, too.

I can get vidalias. They’re great! But I think I’ve romanticized the 1015’s, so I gotta gat it out of my system.

I have that source. For some reason I’m a little jumpy about ordering by phone. I guess I can get over it.
Thanks, though.

I’ve now lived in Texas for over 10 years and I have never heard of a 1015 until now. I am curious about them. I’ll keep an eye open for them at Central Market and Whole Foods and give them a try.

And they are sweeter, and yummier, that Vidalias. I just had an onion and mayo on sourdough. Good stuff.
I did find a seller online.
A 9lb (6 pretty large onions) box set me back about $24, including shipping(about $2.65/lb. Not cheap, but not outrageous. Worth it because I wanted them*.
Thanks, BlakeTyner, for your input. I may try your source if I eat these before the season ends.
*I love being rich.

“Lost in the mists of time”
Austin???

Walla Walla Sweets will be hitting the market soon. Nothing else compares.

They got 'em at plain old HEB and Randall’s, too.

Whoa! I shook the tree, and look what fell out.
Seriously though, “plain old” about those two stores? Aren’t they large chain supermarkets back east? I think Randall’s is associated with Safeway out here.

“Plain old” HEB vs. Central Market, which is essentially upscale HEB.

HEB and Randalls (and Wal-mart) are the dominant mainstream supermarkets in central and south Texas, what with Albertson’s bailing out.

It’s Vidalia time! I had a Vidalia and avocado sandwich yesterday. Heaven!!

I went to a real butcher shop in the rear of a local market the other day to get a couple pork chops. The butcher (when it was my turn) asked me "How thick do you want 'em).
Cool  . I’ll be going back.
