After posting a reply to the 3some thread about using condoms, Texican the idiot pours forth with exceedingly stupid advice.
Where in the fuck have you been hiding for the past 13 years, 80’s boy? Did you not hear about the HIV/AIDS epidemic? Where do you get your stats? From the old newspapers lying around your garage?
Here, try some new info on for size:
Has stats categorized by regions. In the UK (of which our Isle of Man boy will be partaking of the fun activities) the number of HIV cases aquired during hetero activities is 22%. Not nil, eh?
As for other diseases and info on HIV/AIDS, there is more info here: http://www.cdcnpin.org/
There are a whole slew of diseases that people can have or transmit without their knowing. HPV is a main cause of cervical cancer, and is the most common STD in the USA. What this means is that you, dear sir, could be infected with it right now and not know it. And you could go out and spread HPV tomorrow, cuz “Sex is supposed to be fun, not an exercise in sterility.” And that one time no condom fun could potentially kill this woman from cervical cancer.
Just because they are friends doesn’t mean they are safe. I got Chlamydia from a committed girlfriend in the 80’s…she didn’t know she was infected for 8 months (we had been dating for the last 4). Passed it onto me after she went on the pill and I happened to stop my acne medication (Tetracycline, same antibiotic used to treat it). The guy that gave it to her didn’t know he had it, and then was too embarrased to tell her. She is now sterile, and I pissed fire for a week. But it’s all fun, right?
STD’s happen, innocently so more often than not. Don’t ever recommend something that idiotic. You could kill someone.
Good rant Tomcat . It’s absolutely horrific that in this day and age there are ignorant people out there like Texican who believe that just knowing someone well (or being a hetrosexual) will prevent you from contracting an STD.
It’s not just HIV either. Genital warts, herpes, syphillis, the list goes on. Telling someone not to use condoms is just ignorant and irresponsible.
It scares me to death that there are people out there that actually believe that they are immune to these horrible diseases.
Herpes simplex 2 (usually known as genital herpes) is really frighteningly common in the US. I’d posted this link previously in another thread on the topic, which states that, “According to 1997 figures, the most recent statistics available from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 45 million Americans have contracted genital herpes. This means about one in five of all people over age 12 outside jails, prisons, nursing homes and hospitals have the virus technically known as herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2).”
Admittedly the virus is only transmitted (last I’d read) when there is a sore present, but there could be a very small one hidden somewhere - between skin folds, under pubic hair, etc.
Herpes won’t kill you, but it’s not currently curable, and it sure isn’t pleasant.
I liked the ‘Grew up in the 80s when safe sex meant she was on the pill’ line.
I grew up in the 80s. I got laid for the first time in the 80s. I sure as shit knew about AIDS and the others prior to that event. What world is someone living in if he DOESN’T know that safe sex popped up in the early 80s?
This is overstated, but not as far off as it is purported to be.
The counter figure of 22% heterosexual transmission is misleading. Texican did include “non drug users” in his allegation, and much of the heterosexual transmissions involve women being infected by IVDA men.
Since he limited his statement only to AIDs and only to heterosexual, non-IV drug users, his statement that the risk is “practically nil” is still inaccurate, but the risk of HIV infection in such cases is much lower than for gay men, IV drug users, and the sex partners of IV drug users.
You are correct, non-drug using het to het unprotected sex is relatively low risk. The problem is that many men and women lie like crazy to new and existing partners about their sexual and drug use histories.
It amazes me how stupid some people can be about this stuff. About a year ago, a friend of mine told me that “women can get AIDS from men, but men can’t get AIDS from women.” I just stared at him in shocked disbelief. How can people still be that ignorant?
There’s another thing about texican’s remark that I find saddening, though unfortunately not suprising. I have noticed that many people seem to think AIDS has somehow replaced all other STDs. His “don’t use a condom because AIDS is rare in heterosexuals” forgets that AIDS is not the only disease to protect yourself from. Herpes, Chlamydia, Syphilis, genital warts, etc are still with us. Perhaps he should look up the infection rates of those among the “TRULY hetero”.
Au contraire, we know that he is an idiot, and in the 80’s at least, he was also a fucking idiot. The danger of texican is that his non-use of condoms not only endangers his partner with possible STDs but also increases the chance of texican passing on his genes, thus endangering the entire species.
And you can always trust the word of those who participate in condomless threeways that they are, in fact, drug-free and never engage in sexual activities with people whose HIV status is unknown.
Condomless threeways never, ever involve drugs or acts of homosexuality-- so there you go. Ride that bitch barebacked without any fear!
What Beeblebrox said, only louder and hotter. Advocating condomless casual sex is dangerous. If you do not know a partner’s serostatus, insist on a condom–no ifs, ands, and not in the butts! That anyone today thinks that the shining badge of “TRUE heterosexuality” is a magic shield that will ward off all STDs is just jawdroppingly stupid. (and don’t even get me started on “bugchasers”… )
The only time that it’s OK to bareback is with a monogamous partner after you have both been tested for HIV (two tests, 6 months apart) and Hep C and have gotten injections for Hep A and B. Until then, keep that rascal wrapped!
Is Texican some sort of authority on STDs and their transmission? Is he some sort of authority figure to whom anyone with questions about STDs listens to? It’s probably safe to assume that the answer to both is no. In which case, at worst he is uninformed, but certainly not dangerous.
I think you all may be being wooshed. I think what elucidator meant to imply is that Texican certainly IS a fucking idiot. He just chose the least offensive adjective and contradicted it.
It’s like saying the Oakland Raiders are Fat Criminal Fuckwits.
For the record, I wasn’t wooshed. I tried to continue the joke by saying “no, he is a danger - to the gene pool”, but am not sure if I was as clever as I tried to be.
