Alright fellas, for the new year I’m wanting to get back into my martial arts - it’s a good way to keep fit I find, and if someone starts something disciplined training beats drunken flailing most of the time.
I’ve got a background in Muay Thai, trained in it for about a year, the guy who taught it was really good, unfortunately it’s just moved out of the area - although I have a heavy bag, books and the interweb to keep my skills sharp there.
Two new classes have opened up; one boxing place (I was planning on taking that up to replace my MT classes) and one jujitsu training which I’ve only just found out about. There’s also a karate place, although I’ve been to one class of that and decided it was a bit crap so I knocked that on the head.
Here’s my problem; will I be creating a confused mishmash of technique by trying to keep sharp in all these areas if it comes to an actual ruck, or do these techniques actually complement each other fairly well? Would I be best to stick to one discipline so as to not confuddle my muscle reactions and tiny little mind (I figured boxing and MT were similar enough to not get too muddled - what I’m worried about is figuring out what style I’m gonna use and while I’m thinking I get smacked in the chops, whereas with one discipline it’s more straightforward) or does it not really matter if you train in 3 (!) techniques?
Thanks for replies, I know I create a lot of threads about fighting and what have you - I promise I’m not a really violent person.
