Nah, it’s not a rant. After 3-4 weeks of single-digit and subzero temperatures, a huge low pressure front moved in and the temps shot up to the high 30s. This means glass where streets used to be. I work on the local AF base, which closes whenever Og farts, so I’m off today. Now, get back to work, peasants!
You damn near had my blood boiling, but then I read your OP. . .
. . . and remembered, “Oh yeah, they did the same thing in Minot, too!”
Tripler
Damned weather.
A big snowstorm hit Carbondale, IL right as we all came back from Christmas break either in 1977 or '78. By “big” I mean maybe 6-7 inches. That would cause a one-day ripple in Chicago, but it literally shut Carbondale down for 2-3 days. Even the bars closed for a day because they couldn’t get deliveries.
Tragic.
I might have guessed you lived in DC, except we didn’t get any snow this weekend. Usually, as soon as the first flakes drift down, the stores are full of people seeing milk, bread, and toilet paper, and the gov’t dismisses everyone early.
I lived there when I worked for the State Dept. And you’re right. There are no pussies as pussified as government worker pussies.
I always thought snow days would leave me after I left school, until I went to Kirtland AFB.
Of course I ended up having to be one of the few having to actually, work and such.
When I was in Fort Leonard Wood, MO, they got an inch of snow.
One inch.
The entire fort shut down.
Oh yeah, we bad. One inch of snow and the Army grinds to a halt.
Hmph.
My work goes on whatever. If I can’t get in, they come and get me. I love the needed feeling.
I hope they pull up in a tank. Cause that would be cool.
