Funny you should say that. I don’t know Sandler very well, apart from the fact that he’s a bad actor, and I don’t know the song at hand. But when I read the lyrics, I thought, “Feh. Python could have done this, and the same people bashing it now would have loved it to death”.
Happy Gilmore was by far one of the funniest movies I’ve ever seen in the slap-stick genre. Everything since seems like a bad remake. I wish I could make his money singing crappy songs and starring in crappy movies. I agree with chula that this Eight Crazy Nights, if the trailers are any indication, will be one of the worst movies ever made but will probably make a fortune at the box office because the kids will pay to see it in droves. They love him and Sandler could care less what we think.
I think his song “Piece Of Shit Car” is very good. If you’ve ever driven a car at the end of its lifespan, it’ll probably make you laugh.
Nope, that’s the Cosby Show. Adam Sandler played a friend of Theo Huxtable who bought a dinky jar of caviar to impress their dates when they went to a school dance. I think they also rented a helicopter.
>Okay, say what you want about Sandler, but Opera Man ROCKS.
I’ll second that!
Hi, welcome to the Adam Sandler flame thread. How many in your party?
This thread would end a lot more quickly if you Sandler haters would realize that some people find the guy funny and that doesn’t mean they’re stupid mouth-breathers. Again, I fall back on the EXTREMELY subjective nature of comedy—I go to see “Jackass” and laugh until I pee a little, you watch a grandmother fall down 3 flights of stairs and laugh, your Aunt Beatrice finds Victor Borga wildly hysterical. And so it goes!
Oh, and just for the record, so you know where I stand?
Adam Sandler?
Farking hysterical in 70% of his work. The other 30% is pure, unadulterated shit. When he’s good, he’s very good. When he’s bad, he’s so bad it’s unimaginable.
And for those of you convinced of his perpetual non-talented status, take 90 minutes out of your day and watch “Punch Drunk Love.” The guy’s got actual acting chops, despite the fact that he’d obviously prefer to play the buffoon in most all of his work.
But don’t judge the guy because of his characters. How shallow.
Wsler Your a fuckwit. While going over the top is alright from time to time You dim wit have gone to far!
Lets be honest here.
No one can make carrot top look like a comic genius
No, the whole song, music and lyrics, sucks.
I think I’m fairly well qualified to criticze his work because I was in a band for a little over 7 years and in that time I wrote quite a few songs, 99% of which were just lyrics, and I never wrote anything even nearly as lamely braindead and stupid as any of the shit that Sandler has tried to pass off as a song.
Actually, I think it’s a REALLY safe bet that Sandler spent days and days and days and days and days and days and days and days and days nad days struggling over the lyrics.
As I said in my original post, he makes Carrot Top look like a comic genius.
That’s cuz Python would’ve MADE it funny!!
BTW, to each his own, and if you like Adam Sandler, then I wish you many years of watching him do his thing. Me, personally, only hate Tom Greene more.
AGAIN. Subjective nature of comedy, WSLer. NOW you’re just coming off like an elitist, you-like-what-I-hate-so-you’re-a-moron type.
Oh, and congratulations on spending 7 years in a band. Quite the accomplishment. How that qualifies you to judge other peoples’ COMEDY work is quite beyond me, but hey. Obviously it’s worth something.
Damn, I think that Lonesome Kicker Song is pretty funny…
but I bet it sounds just as bad as anything else when he’s singing it!
And I bet you anything there were loads of people who thought your music sucked, and that your band had no talent, and that whoever wrote the lyrics was a musically pathetic hack.
Totally subjective, yet you state your opinion as a matter of fact.
According to IMDB, Adam Sandler was very definitely a guest on the Cosby Show.

Sandler is OK, but Emo Phillips is a brilliant comic. Problem is, it’s comedy for people with brains, so a lot of people don’t get it. It’s their loss.
I swear I was thinking about starting this very thread today when I saw that commercial for “Eight Crazy Nights.” Remember the bit on SNL he did as the opera singer? He is one of the least funny people around, and Bill Murray once said something along the lines of, “For the life of me I don’t understand how people think he’s funny.” Equally unfunny is that little fuckwad jimmy fallon who steals every Mike Myers bit to ever come down the pipe.
Adam Sandler, in most circumstances, totally gets on my nerves. This started on SNL when he would always laugh in the middle of his own bits. For some reason, that really, really, irritated the shit out of me.
But, I must admit I like “Piece Of Shit Car” and “Happy Gilmore.”
I figure with the vast array of craps he’s put out, he was bound to get lucky once or twice.
I like The Thanksgiving Song. We listened to it just this morning. It’s a tradition around here.
I think The Waterboy, was one of the best movies ever made.
A man, Bobby Boucher, torn between the love of his momma, and his love of foosball.
And in the end he gets to have it all, he loves his momma, he loves foosball, and most important, he gets to love Vicki Vallencourt.
This is a heartwrenching movie that that tugs at the heartstrings and brought tears to eyes.
-sniff-
You bet me Anything?!!??

Them’s dangerous words. You’d best think about 'em afore ya speak 'em.
/Gunfighter/
That is a bet I can assure you that you would lose.
