I would also point out that the terms of your meanspirited contract do not make clear whether you are agreeing that “pseudotriton ruber ruber” not post here for two years, or that the individual currently known by that pseudonym not post here for two years under any name. It seems obvious to me that, should he choose, he could merely open a new account with a new name and post away while also taking your money. What happens then? I seriously doubt TPTB will assist.

Well, when one reaches a certain age, it has to be taken into account. For example, I’m in prime heart attack territory - I’m a middle-aged male, I smoke, I drink, I have a bit of a gut. I certainly don’t expect to die tomorrow, but in any long range planning, it would be both foolish and selfish of me not to consider what would happen if I did.

I am hale and hardy, quit drugs and cigarettes more than a decade ago, and have no reason not to expect to enjoy my retirement in a few years. But, I make plans that include the eventuality of my death. In fact, I also intend to shield this particular wad of wealth from legal entanglements, in case I get sued, or robbed. I take promises very seriously.

He’s leaving voluntarily, and thus is fair game. Lost in all the madness about offer details and intervening cat fights has been the message I originally posted to him. All I asked of him was that he put up or shut up with respect to the accusations of irrationality and ignorance. He never made any logical case for his views, but never failed to call a Christian an idiot.

When, for example, he claimed that faith is a choice — faith, mind you, not mere church attendance or anything — I challenged him to choose to believe. He ignored me until his silence became conspicuous, and then he said simply that he could if he wished, but just didn’t want to. No one calling me a “weasel” here had called him a weasel there.

So bizarre were his claims that I always suspected a lack of sincerity. And sure enough, he is willing to put his cause to rest for money. I’ve done the board’s atheists a favor. Like I said in that first post, the good arguers for materialism were being drowned out by him and his cohorts, like Badchad. He was never sincere, and his sell out is proof.

In the three days that I have been away from the SDMB, several comments have been made about me and about whether or not my accusations against PRR were appropriate. I was responding at my first opportunity to those comments. They were not comments made by PRR. I was not flinging stones at his departing back.

But what if I had been? This is the Pit. He is not banned.

Yes, I think I served a good purpose. It began with his false claims about acceptable usage and I was fighting ignorance.

When PRR is no longer an “is leaving” but is an “has left,” and others do not have any questions or comments that I wish to address, then I will not be commenting on that subject further.

Are you assuring me that as of this moment YOU consider yourself to owe me $500, payable in two years (at approximately 4 a.m. on February 18th, 2009–you can pay me earlier if 4 a.m. isnt convenient for you) whether Liberal sends you the check at all, or whether it turns out to be any good or not? Because if not, I’ll continue posting (those are my terms) until you get his check and verify that it’s good.

You understand, it would be foolish of me to forgo posting for two minutes, much less for two years, just to learn from you, “Oh, I never got that check from Lib after all” or “I got the check, but it bounced when I tried cashing it” because no one here would blame you as much as they’d blame that weaseling Liberal, who would be out nothing and whose standing in this commmunity couldn’t get much lower no matter what he did.
