Must have been all the threads were Microsoft was reamed and or vilified and the rebuttals were just not good enough.
Anyway due to the fact that my internet supplier Bell sympatico has now teamed up with MSN they have done something to their email settings which requires me to have a windows live account, which is not the same as the one I currently have.
So I cant access email from them and I get a rejection notice everytime outlook express polls the pop server. Mostly this is not such a big deal , but I happened to have the Straightdope using it as my primary email, so I have not been getting any message notifications that a thread I have been posting in has been updated.
My traffic to the dope has been light lately so its not like I cant find the threads manually, but it was irratating enough to change the email that I use with the dope. I chose to use Hotmail , mainly cause of the notification through msn messenger and that its been probably one of the longest lifespan email addresses, yahoo would probably come in either first or second if I was to do a search on this.
So I log into the CP and do the required field changes and the the dope says I have to reply to an email that was sent to the address to prove that I actually own it and I am who I say I am.
Cool, pretty standard rule for this sort of thing and depending on the website , either the email comes in right a way , or its delayed depending on the website. Now lots of posts about the dope being slow on occasion and the hampsters are fatiqued, but I was getting a bit concerned that nothing was popping up on hotmail.
So through the fog of confusion , a bright light goes off in my head and off I go to hotmail and the domain of penile enlargement, 419 scams , and now apparently the straight dope, for some reason this seemed to have tripped the hotmail spam settings and placed my authentication request into the spam box.
