Thanks Kelly Clarkson - now every fuckwit is saying "jaded".

Does anyone else find this word annoying? I mean what the fuck? I’ve never once heard this word used before the year 2003, she comes out with a song containing the word, now everybody and their brother is saying it. It’s showing up in songs everywhere. There’s even a thread started hear containing the word. Is it just me? I guess I am sick. Just say BORED, please.

I think you’re bored lol.

I’ve heard and said jaded before…

Maybe I’m just too freakin’ old and the lingo has come full circle!

ACK!!!

You’re right, I am bored. I just find it weird because I’ve never heard it before, and now it’s be tossed around like a new fad, I just dislike fads I suppose.

Yeah well, you must really hate being on 5th Avenue then.

except at Cmastime, it’s nice then…

I suppose one could say bored and mean the same thing…

But it’s like the difference between the following sentances:

John ate a bunch of food.

John gorged immensely at the buffet line.

Picking the proper word for the situation is seperates good writers from hacks. Sorry you don’t like trends, perhaps we should convince all those people they don’t suffer from Ennui, but just are a bit bored. I mean, why not just have one word and just put very, much, greatly, etc in front of it to express how much of the boredom we suffer from.

Newspeak double plus good.

Who is Kelly Clarkson?

I think she’s the one who won the first American Idol. But then again, I get all of the reality TV shows confused, so maybe not. If it’s her, I think she’s the one with that From Justin to Kelly movie, too.

hmm… was it Aerosmith that released “Jaded” a few years ago?

This thread makes me think of the Aerosmith song. (which came out in 2001, by the way)

imthjackaz: Kelly Clarkson is the American Idol winner.

Yeah, the same girl. Definitely that reality show, too… have you heard they’re making American Juniors now? (little kids aged 6-12)

Hmm… you beat me to it whilst I was composing my post. Don’t know if that’s a good thing…

Feh. I prefer “jaded” to “bored”, any rate. Could it be that I’m bored with “bored”, or just jaded by its over-use by folk these days?

Really, though, “jaded” drags in several dimensions more connotational meaning behind it than the old drafthorse “bored”. It’d be a pity to see such a sumptious expression sink into mundanity.

Oops… the site I linked to for the Aerosmith song has a LOT of popups. If you really hate them with a passion, try this site instead. Sorry about that!

:stuck_out_tongue:

Didn’t Aerosmith release a song with that name a few years ago?

Green Day uses the word, as well.

Twisted Sister used it too:

“Your life is trite and jaded,
boring and confiscated…”
(“We’re Not Gonna Take It”)

I don’t know about the rest of you but I’ve seen the word in the most unlikely of places–books.
Authors have been using it for years…

I can’t hear the word without singing the Aerosmith song in my head.

Just remember, it’s not the same thing as calling a girl “jade”… all right? (when it’s not her real name, that is… and yes, I knew a girl named Jade in high school)

pepperlandgirl: in my extensive reading career, I have seen that word in books. Thanks for reminding me.
