Thanks Kelly Clarkson - now every fuckwit is saying "jaded".

~cough cough~

You called?

Has nobody here listened to Jesus Christ Superstar? During the Last Supper, Judas denounces Jesus:

Uh…no, actually.

I just searched a song lyrics data base for the word jaded and came up with over 80 hits for songs written before the Clarkson song. Some of these songs were decades old and major hits.

Heh… y’know… I was JUST thinking of this thread when I saw your name in the forum as the last poster to reply to another thread!

I guess I don’t get how jaded=bored. I always thought it meant as Epimetheus put it, that one who is jaded has developed a sort of defense mechanism against the harsher realities of the world. For example, people become jaded to certain things if they’re exposed to them on a daily basis. (I’ve often seen the word used in conjunction with city dwellers, who are more calloused from the daily violence they may witness.)

Not to be mean but… do you read much?

It just seems very odd to me that you had never heard the word ‘jaded’ until recently, as it’s an extremely common word and has been for a very long time. I’ve no idea who Kelly Clarkson is, though.

“Bored” and “jaded” do not mean the same thing. Here is from m-w.com:

1 a : to wear out by overwork or abuse b : to tire or dull through repetition or excess
2 obsolete : to make ridiculous
intransitive senses : to become weary or dulled
synonym see TIRE

Something that is a common issue in recent times: violence in video games. One of the major worries is that children will become acclimated to the violence and see it as normal. It won’t stand out to them as a bad thing anymore. Pop quiz: have the children become (A) Jaded or (B) Bored ?

I thought this was about Jade.

Never mind.

Speaking of Jade… Jaade, is your name a typo? It sounds like you’re falling off a cliff.

Jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaadddddde…

Jade was taken.

As it was on a video game I play, Everquest.

My bard in Everquest became Jaade and so this Jaade did as well…

~J

Not to be mean but…do you watch TV much?

(Hi, Opal!)

Thanks Flami, now I can go back to not caring.

Where does Mara Jade Skywalker fit into all this? Hmmm?

I’ve never fucking heard of this Kelly Clarkson character in my life, and I probably don’t want to. You can rest assured that if I choose to use the word “jaded” it is not on her account.

Which leads us to a momentarily-amusing SDMB/Aerosmith song parody (but not the first):

Hey
J-J-Jadis
In all it’s misery it will always be what I love
And hated

(See, if I were creative like Sealemon88, I’d have a whole song there, but I’m not, so I don’t. That and I barely know Jadis.)

That’s probably it. I cannot stand to read anything more than a few paragraphs, I get distracted too easily. In fact I’ve been reading since a very young age, younger than folks I know anyways. I’m not being conceited, that’s just how it went with me. I took to it very easily.

Why would you think you’re being mean? Unless you’re implying that I’m stupid, which isn’t fair because… really, who doesn’t know Kelly Clarkson? You didn’t necessarily have to watch American Idol to know who she is, god knows I never have. She’d still get it though.

I guess I just don’t read material that would contain the word, because I do read a lot, I just havn’t come across it. Porn is hardly ever dull enough to use such a word.

Now that you mention it, I 'spose I have heard the word a few times in the past. But recently, I’ve been hearing it like every other day. That’s my point here. It’s like when you buy a car, and then you start seeing the same car everywhere. Maybe that’s it. Anyway, I hate the word, sue me. :stuck_out_tongue:

Reality shows bore me beyond tears.

I wasn’t trying to imply that you were stupid.

I don’t watch much non-cable TV, and I don’t watch commercials which is why I’ve never heard of this person. (Yay TiVo!)

Listen to:
Aerosmith - Pink
David Usher - A day in the life

They both have that annoying word.

The Aerosmith song has been running through my head the entire time I’ve been reading this thread. I don’t think it’s possible that someone has NOT heard it at some point…it was all over the radio a couple years ago.

Hey, the word’s been used in a very recent thread right here on these boards.
