Often I come across things on the Dope that enrich my life but I never get to thank the Doper who gave me the gift. By the time I have read the book, seen the obscure movie, tried the recipe tip, listened to the band I have never heard of or absorbed some new point of view, the thread in question is long gone.
So, a thread to thank an unknown Doper.
Someone in a cooking thread recommended using dried mushrooms to thicken stews. WOW, what a great idea when you get around to making goulash.
A Doper mentioned The Case for Socialism by Alan Maass in a recent thread and I really liked it. So much that I bought several copies for the young folks that I know.
In one of the beauty tips threads, a doper recommended tweezing your eyebrows right after you get out of the shower. I tried it, and it worked wonderfully.
I’ve stolen plenty of recipes, concepts, and jokes here. I’ve expanded my view of the world, and changed my opinion on some issues once or twice. I’ve learned I can find insight, compassion, humor, solutions, and a few wingnuts here. Thank you, all.
A doper once posted that coffee grounds will absorb nasty odors. This came in handy when my dog had explosive poops all over the house one day when I was at work. I can’t tell you how grateful I was for that little bit of knowledge. And it really worked!
I just want to thank all the dopers because I have learned a lot on here. I also appreciate that you treated me like a human being. I really have learned a lot about history, politics, music and tv and makeup and some hypothetical questions. It’s all good
A couple of years ago I was changing my hairstyle every few weeks, making it shorter each time. I finally decided to go with the cue ball look. Thanks to the Dopers who told me all about the do-it-yourself method.
Just today, I tried this out - somebody here told me you can get Big Mac sauce on ANYTHING at McDonald’s. My god! I don’t understand why other people actually want more meat there, as the meat is the grossest thing, but evidently they do. So all the nicer sandwiches have two patties on them, which is icky gross nasty plus more food than I need. I usually order the regular cheeseburger, and the lady says “You know you can get a double for blah blah blah”, urgh, that would completely miss the point. I mean, I don’t go there often, but when I do go… less meat, please.
So I ordered my cheeseburger with Big Mac sauce today, and of course she was all “Are you sure you don’t want MORE MEAT?” But it was AWESOME. Seriously.
Thanks to you guys, I never have to go to news sites to get my own news. Every single news item that needs to be known about is discussed and linked to from here.
I sound like a totally well-informed person, and I only go so far out on the 'net as this board!
I’m grateful for the recipe to curried carrot soup, and I’m super-grateful for whoever recommended Wolff’s kasha. I eat it nearly every morning for breakfast now and it’s one of my favorite foods.
For me, the latest thing was salt in my coffee. I can’t say that it changed my life, but I tried it this morning and the coffee was undeniably good! So, thanks Superfluous Parentheses.
I started a thread asking about how to tame the lion, so to speak - I’d been using scissors until then, knowing full well it wasn’t the brightest idea.
Someone recommended the Schick Quattro that comes with a little trimmer in the handle, and it is AWESOME! Thank you to whoever recommended it - I float a little thought of gratitude out into the cosmos for you whenever I trim up that area. (You probably didn’t want to know that, but now you do. :))
Besides that, I’m grateful that people take the time to read me whining about my messed-up family and chime in with stories from their own dysfunctions. Thanks, y’all, for your patience.
