Yesterday, for absolutely no good reason other than the fact that I whined about wanting Eve’s books (which were on my Amazon wish list), Dantheman sent me, a Doper he’s never met, an Amazon gift certificate. He didn’t even know that it was my birthday yesterday. He just did it to be nice.
Now isn’t that amazing? What a sweet fellow.
Rather turn this into an entire thread about one nice person (not that he doesn’t deserve it), I thought it might be fitting to allow other people to shout out about Dopers who have been extraordinarily good to them. I myself could list others (Diane, delphica, magdalene, manhattan, for example) who have extended nice gestures that I didn’t even deserve, but I’d be here all day. So I’ll stick with my most recent one, dantheman.
And you? What Dopers do you know who deserve accolades for being decent people who go above and beyond the call of good board citizenship?
I want to thank Techchick-who inspired myself and others to quit smoking along with her. I had been thinking about it, but not doing anything about it. Three weeks later I feel better, I can breathe better, I smell better and I’ve saved about six hundred bucks.
My vote for Queen of the Dopers (does that sound right?)
Well, how lovely! Enough to make me believe in karma, because you sent me that 1930 movie magazine. (Now everyone is thinking, “what a cheap bitch Eve is, for not sending Cranky a copy of her book!” And my only defense is I am not so much “cheap” as “broke”).
That’s really nice Dantheman. A nice, little gift certificate would have cheered me up in my darkest hour. Of course, replace “nice, little” with “ridiculously expensive” and “gift certificate” with “black Humvee.”
I’ll go ahead and salute Coldfire, not for any particular act, but I really enjoy his posts and he takes a lot of crap from some pretty idiotic posters for no reason.
I have a lot of people to thank, so, I’ll use this short and easy method.
Thank you to all those who were supportive and shared their kindness with me during my recent difficult times. I know how busy everyone’s lives are, and the fact that you take (took) a few moments to send me your well-wishes makes me believe that humankind is basically good.
Except that ** Maeglin** character, that guy is pure EVIL.
I’d like to belately tip my hat to lno, who put together one great PorkDope in Minneapolis, out of his own pocket, and also taught me how to breathe fire. How cool is that?
Which reminds me, I offered to pitch in money towards the cost, and then completely forgot. Crap. So I guess thanks also for not coming after me with knives, etc.
I’m embarrassed to say that I can’t remember names, but over the two years I’ve been posting here, I’ve gotten several very sweet e-mails for no particular reason. And because my Inbox fills pretty fast, I’ve not saved any of them. Still, they all touched me, especially considering they were from people who’ve never met me.
Everyone whos helped in The Perfect Girl Thread. Most of the names escape me but I remember Spit and BadAzzBec. Also <Your Name Here>, haven’t seen the kid in a while always a good read in his posts. And every single person whos ever posted on the SDMB (in a positive way), just because you’re cool by association
jarbaby, that was ages ago, no mention needed. Although I must say if you had to speak up, you’re a real bitch for not mentioning the wonderful Packers calendar I sent you.
Chique, for clueing me into the Minneapolis dopers, and Pork Dope. She even invited me to her farm today, so my kid could play with animals. Alas, I don’t know if I’m going up north tonight or tomorrow, so I had to pass. But how kind is that? For all she knows, I could be some psycho farm animal hater.
When I started a thread about where to find guayabera shirts on-line, the answer turned out to be “right here at the SDMB.” Bad New Baboon, before she left the boards, sent me a box of four of them from Mexico. She won’t read this, I guess, and I’ve already thanked her personally, but wanted to spread the word of the thoughtful thing she did.
I’d just like to thank the bookworm Dopers who have enriched my life so much with so many wonderful book selections. My copy ‘n’ paste keys are worn out every time there’s a What’re Ya Readin’ thread. And since we’re smoochin’ Cranky … she sent me wonderful selections in the book swap, which I adored and passed on to my collegiate sisters.

It’s been quite some time ago (and I haven’t seen his name on the boards lately, come to think about it) but casdave once sent me a box of chocolates, just to prove English chocolates are the best in the world. They were indeed yummy.
Nobody knows me, and that’s cool, but I would like to thank all Dopers, past, and present, (and hopefully future), for providing me with interesting reading for well over a year now. You guys are smart, and funny, and, most of all, genuine.
I wish that I lived nearer to some sorta Dopefest.
