Thanksgiving is coming up. Well, in the USA, at least.
And so I wanted to make this topic because, well, of reading one like it made a few years ago around the same time by the dearly departed poopah chalupa.
What members here do you enjoy and are thankful that they post? What members do you like reading posts and topics and thoughts by? Even if you haven’t ever talked to them on here before and even if they probably don’t even know who the hell you are, who do you appreciate and admire?
This isn’t meant to be a “popularity” contest or anything like that. Just a recognition of who you’re thankful for, in a way, whether they are aware you’re thankful of them or not. Whether they even know you exist or not.

I’m thankful for most on my list because I read a lot of posts by them and always enjoy most of their thoughts and opinions (unless otherwise stated).
So that’s who I’m more or less thankful for who post on here.
Anyone you would say you’re thankful for who make the SDMB (to you) a better place?
I love my “gang” of American Idol posters, such as Biggirl, Jaade, Hal Briston (he’s so baaahd) and the others who made my watching the show even more fun by posting about it right afterwards.
Although I am myself pretty liberal, I really appreciate the conservative posters on this board (especially Bricker, who is extremely thoughtful, articulate intelligent, and argues with integrity) who prevent this place from becoming an echo chamber and who daily challenge my worldview.
And SentientMeat, for knowing everything about everything, as far as I can tell. (And no, I’m not being sarcastic.)
Wow, I’m in the OP! sniffle I notice most of my friends are already mentioned in the OP, but I’d like to add:
**CandidGamera ** - for answering all of my comics questions and only mildly making fun of me
**FatBaldGuy ** for answering my GQs
**Idle Thoughts ** - for making that great T or D thread!
**Bricker ** - I disagree with a lot of his politics but he argues his case very well.

There are times I despair at this place, thinking it is an echo chamber, nothing more. So I can’t tell you how pleased I am to hear things like the above – not so much for the aggrandizing ego boost (although hey, what’s not to like about that? ) but because it confirms the idea that people read these contentious threads even if they seldom post to them, and that they are an audience for the idea that reasonable people may disagree without one of them being a Tool of Evil.
The one that I appreciate most of all is SkipMagic for creating Skip’s Magic Board. It was my sanctuary during a bad time, and everyone there is incredibly wonderful. Some are dopers, some are former dopers.
I respect the opinions of many other Dopers I have met and conversed with here and learned much from many of them. I look forward to meeting some of you in the real world. I am amazed by Qadgop the Mercotan’s knowledge, Campion help me expelled some mental poison, Hal Briston for the best thread in my stay here and a fellow Giant Fan, anyrose for a lot of laughs already, **Johnny L.A. ** for many great café threads. Bricker from whom I learned some excellent knowledge and who challenged me to pull together research from all over the web and by phone calls to prove a hypothetical point. The Mods and Admins showed some early patience and helped me along. I am here to learn and hopefully share some knowledge.
I can add to these a few more. Idle_Thoughts: For starting lots if interesting threads that drag me in. I think you are second only to **Johnny L.A.**for me. FinnAgain for some engaging political debate, some very good laughs and for giving me a chance to preview and criticize the novel he is working on. Winston Smith So many entertaining threads and especially the Ask the 50’s Dad Amazon Floozy Goddess for the amazing cartoons.
Additional thanks to **Hal ** who actually had me over to his place for a Giants game. Hope I get to meet for of the Dopers IRL.
Here’s another flaming leftist (worse; a flaming European leftist) who greatly appreciates your posts and looks forward to each one. This goes for you too, Sam Stone and Shodan, if you’re listening. I would like to post in the political threads but they tend to be way too US-centric for me, as my knowledge of American politics is way too limited to compete with you guys, and naturally the subject doesn’t interest me as much as it does you. The threads are still some of the most fascinating reading I’ve ever had.
My sophistry has clearly deluded you, S&I. Many thanks for your kindness, but like everyone else here I am but one six-billionth of humanity trying to make sense of their situation. (In fact, I’d say I don’t really know anything for certain when it comes down to it!)
So, in return, I nominate you.
I gotta chime in on the gratitude for our conservative posters. Guys like Bricker, Sam Stone, Scylla, Shodan, John Mace, Debaser and quite a few others who don’t come to mind offhand keep a demure moderate like me from veering too far to the left.
tdn, for indulging in our harmless little flirtation. It always makes my day and I get to express a little affection here without, you know, running afoul of one of you real whackjobs.
I love coming upon a clever turn of phrase–something happily perpetrated frequently by many, many Dopers. Something like “It fishes in the disposal for treasure” by inkleberry in the thread about her loathesome cat. Or just about anything lieu says … FairyChatMom’s quick quips in the MMP thread… Bosda’s apoplectic threads about something he’s read in the news … Sampiro’s characterizations in his gripping tales of Southern dysfunction.
Your cleverness as a whole, Dopers, is a balm to my weary soul–and eyes, which are forced to read much banal writing.
I’m thankful that people like Bricker and Sua post. It is always very illuminating. I may not always agree or understand but I’m thankfu for them.
I’m thankful for Bosda, as I now read an online comic that I discovered through one of his sig lines.
Johnny LA, NoClueBoy and others have been helpful with photograpy threads.
Alice in Wonderland is great at doing the White Elephant threads. I’m also grateful that what ever doper had my name this year didn’t send me anything so now I have more room in the apartment.
