Thanksgiving: What did you forget?

Since dinner tonight is stuffed shells, garlic bread and a salad…everything!

it’s Thanksgiving?

Hope you found a nice place.

Sour cream. There’s a pie crust recipe that’s meant to be amazing which uses sour cream, and I was going to use it for the apple pie. I thought I’d just substitute Greek Yogurt, but when I cracked open the container the smell could make armies surrender. In the end I used the usual flour, butter, ice water, etc, and it turned out great.

I forgot the pie crust for my pecan pie. I don’t bake much so I don’t know how to make pie crust. Luckily I live about a mile from a market and they were open. The pie was a hit.

The SO asked me how I make the pecan pie. I told her the ingredients, and she’s like ‘For one pie? No wonder it’s so rich!’

I forgot to make the brussels sprouts, but we had plenty of food anyway. (And I was going to cheat this year and use Green Giant frozen ones.) I didn’t forget rolls – King’s Hawaiian ones this year – but neither of us had any.

I peeled, cubed, oiled and seasoned the sweet potatoes and got them into and then out of the oven and even into a serving dish.

Which never made it to the table.

I didn’t actually forget anything… but the mother-in-law who brought the turkey didn’t realize that that meant that she was supposed to bring the gravy, too. Or at least the broth, which we could turn into gravy.

Club crackers for my cheese plate. Went to the pantry and the box was empty. Oh well.

I completely forgot when it was, until the news stories appeared about Black Friday nonsense in Britain. (I thought it was the week before, to be honest).

My mom said I forgot to make the sweet potatoes. I advised her that they were not forgotten, they were intentionally left out because neither I or most of the rest of the family like them. (Of course this is a woman who would make 3 kinds of stuffing…one of which only her brother liked. Even if we weren’t sure he was coming)

My husband was supposed to bring his .22 so we could shoot it on his grandpa’s farm. He forgot it. Our nephew brought his Red Ryder, which I guess was better than nothing, but phooey.

My mom almost forgot the bacon garnish she had precooked and chopped for the butternut squash soup, and somebody made a comment that involved bacon just as we were tucking in so she was reminded in the nick of time and could flutter off and dance around dropping two or three pieces into everyone’s bowl under their noses.
