Roasting pan.
I thought I needed brown sugar for the pecan pie, but I found I have enough.
Roasting pan.
I thought I needed brown sugar for the pecan pie, but I found I have enough.
I shopped early for non-perishables and thought I had everything. Got home and realized I forgot to buy stuffing.
Then yesterday as I was doing the baking (bread and pies), I went to get the almond extract and the bottle was empty. My daughter lives only a few blocks away, but she didn’t have any either. Fortunately, my husband had no problem going to the supermarket to get some for me.
Other than that, so far I think all’s well. Turkey is stuffed and roasting, sweet potatoes are cooking, bread and pies were finished last night.
Low sodium chicken broth for the gravy… I’m hoping someone is open though I feel guilty for going to store on Thanksgiving.
Ar?
Are you not making turkey?
I forgot to check which restaurants in my neighborhood are open tonight, so I’m not sure where I’m going for dinner.
I am… feel free to give your recipe. I’m not committed to mine but it involves drippings, flour and low sodium chicken broth. I do have a neck I was going to make a little bit of turkey broth with but my turkey did not come with giblets for some odd reason.
Also, I brined my turkey so I’ve been told to beware of salty gravy
My brother’s first year in a new house, he forgot to check if the oven worked. After doing all the food prep.
Mrs FtG forgot the olives. But she went to the store earlier today to get them.
Thanksgiving is saved!
Butter. But fortunately found a stick.
LVBoPeep our turkey has giblets but no neck. :dubious:
I normally have plenty of drippings for gravy, both the rendered fat and the water-based liquid. Plus whatever stock is leftover from earlier.
Corn syrup for the pecan pie. Fortunately, Boy 2.0 was running errands yesterday and didn’t mind making a quick stop at the grocery store (because otherwise, I wouldn’t have made his favorite pie!)
Cut off one of the legs before you put the bird in the oven. Stick it in a pot of water with the neck, some onion, herbs, etc. Broth in no time.
As for forgetting: I always forget how the stuffing grows. No matter my intention, I always end up with a giant bowl full of the stuff. It’s magic, I tells ya.
It must be a conspiracy…
Evaporated milk for the pumpkin pie. I do have a can of sweetened condensed milk, but I know better.
The big challenge will be getting the cranberry sauce plated and onto the table. I think we’ve forgotten for three years running and it has become a bit of a joke. We always have some in the kitchen, but simply cannot remember to set it out.
By the way (and I’m sure you did this), did you check both cavities of the bird? For mine, the neck was in the body and the giblets were in the neck.
Yeah…I had to go digging to find the neck in my turkey. It was buried behind the giblet packet.
The only thing I forgot this year was extra carrots for the turkey soup. Normally I have a ton of extra carrots from my brine and turkey plate, but this year I decided to try a glazed carrot side dish. I realized at the last minute, so I just skimped on the quantities a bit for everything. That’ll give me enough to get a little flavor in the broth.
As we were clearing the table after dinner, we realized there was no cranberry jelly!! And no one missed it till then!
Karo syrup. I was going to make a pecan pie. It’s for the best though because nobody can even eat dessert yet. I can just make my pie next week.
