That look belongs to a singular artist? I never knew.

Everyone I was going to mention is already in here. But I believe that no one has brought up pop artist Roy Lichtenstein yet.

Alternate thread title: We’re evacuating the planet. What 100 artists/work do we leave in the ruins?

And on a related note, Alberto Vargas.

Possibly because very little of his work is original.

God, if we’re doing comic book artists I could probably reel off 40-50 that I can recognize. From Tom Beland to Dave Sim the best ones make it all their own.

Crumb did as much or more to define the '60s than Peter Max ever did. “Keep On Truckin’”, Fritz the Cat, Mr. Natural, “Stoned Again”

I doubt I could name that many, but I do know a handful that non-comic readers wouldn’t recognize, like Dave Mazzucchelli and Walt Simonson. With Crumb and McFarlane, I picked two that I thought were likely to be recognizable even to non-comic readers, by art style even if not by name.

I once glanced at an advertising brochure and remarked “That looks like a Peter Max.” My boss checked the back and, sure enough, it was. Impressed the hell out of her.

Quentin Blake? Just think of the illustrations in Roald Dahl’s books.

John Tiennel is best known for his Alice in Wonderland illustrations.

I think Jack Kirby might be in that cadre, too. He was the creator of what was practically THE Marvel look of the 60s and early 70s.
