When I was very, very young, I saw a full-length animated film which I can only remember the sketchiest details of. Unfortunately, I have never sean nor heard of it again. Here are the details:
The characters in the film were all talking apes or monkeys of some sort… I seem to think that they were also odd colours (such as red and blue) but this may not be true.
The lead character was named either Mario or Marius.
Is this all an invention of my mind or does this sound familiar to anyone? If so, please, let me know what it is. It’s been driving me crazy for years.
Sorry, but I can’t go back further than the Cival War, probably’planet of the apes’, there are a lot of those today at your video store, go have a look-see.
No, it wasn’t Planet of the Apes. It was a cartoon. And no, I can’t narrow it down to a decade except to say that it was on television in the late 70s/early 80s… but who knows when it was made?
I couldn’t even tell you if it was anime in style. This is VERY fragmentary and I doubt I’ll get the answer, but I thought I’d go ahead and ask.
I think I remember something kindof about what you are talking about. I believe it was a very short lived cartoon loosely based on Planet of the Apes. Ithinkitwasquickerthanthis.
Is it “Alakazam the Great”, a.k.a. “The Enchanted Monkey” (1960)? The Japanese title was “Saiyu-ki”. The dubbed American version used the voices of Frankie Avalon and Dodie Stevens. Check in the IMDB to see if it’s a match (www.imdb.com).
Funny this topic would come up because I recently had the same sort of thing… I was trying to remember an old animated wierd movie that I THOUGHT had talking monkeys in it and I remember it being pretty violent. Turns out it was the (very drug induced) film ‘Fantastic Planet’. Any chance that’s what you were looking for?
One of the Marvel “bad guys” was the “Red Ghost.” He wasn’t a ghost, but an Eastern European/Russian/Commie scientiest who had created a “race” of super-apes.
They did make some appearances in some cartoons (Fantastic Four, maybe) made in the '60’s.
