That show's still on the air?

I was just over on Hulu and they had a promo on their main page about the season finale of Ringer. Which surprised the heck out of me because I literally have not heard one word about this show since last year and I just assumed it had been cancelled back around October. I checked and sure enough it’s been on for a full season (22 episodes) and will probably be back next year. Who knew?

This thread isn’t specifically about Ringer. I’m just wondering if other people have encountered a situation like this where they find out some show is still on the air long after they thought it was cancelled.

The Simpsons…
Spongebob Squarepants

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers–when my oldest daughter was something like 7, I took her to see the first movie (sometime around 1995). Imagine my surprise when I was flipping through the channels and found the Rangers are still on the air. According to Wiki, it’s the 19th season, and while it’s no longer the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, it’s still obviously the same franchise.

As I hadn’t paid much attention to the franchise since my daughter was under 10 (and even then, I paid very little attention to it, falling asleep in the theater during the movie), I’m surprised any incarnation is still on the air.

I used to feel that way about “According to Jim”. I never watched it, I never met anyone who watched it, most people had barely heard of it, and yet it lasted 9 seasons!

That was how I felt about Becker when it was on. And still feel when I see it’s in reruns all over the place. Nobody seemed to watch it or talk about it much while it was on, but it had a reasonably long run. You didn’t hear people say, “Hey, did you see Becker last night?”

A few weeks ago I started seeing ads for the Series Finale of One Tree Hill. I thought that show ended years ago.

I watch Spongebob with my daughter (and I kinda like it too) but the other day I turned one on and it was like watching an old episode of the Simpson’s. The animation was a bit different, the voices weren’t quite right etc…I was surprised to find out it was 13 years old. I mean, I knew the show had been on for a while, but I thought it was only like 7 or 8 years old. I didn’t realize it has been around for that long.

Regarding Ringer, I actually started a Season 1 thread about it last week. It’s kicking around here somewhere.

Re: Ringer

You know, I don’t think The CW has ever canceled a show…

America’s Funniest Home Videos. I am about the last person to keep up with current TV schedules but I was shocked, stunned, and even a little hurt when I found out this show was still on the air about a year ago. I thought that show ended about 1992. It was like I was caught in a time-warp.

Victory Garden on PBS. Mr. Salinqmind and I used to watch this on Saturday mornings before we were MARRIED, fergodsake. Then it disappeared. I had no idea it was still on, in the evening sometimes.

Not in my demographic, but Pokemon is still on??? There was a huge Pokemon cult back when my daughter was in middle school, fergodsake, we watched it every morning at breakfast before she went to catch the bus!

And I have never seen a single minute of Scooby-doo, but there seem to be Scooby-doo cartoon movies of some sort with recent dates, showing up in the TV program guide. ??? Apparently there is some cult out there I know nothing of, clamoring for this, and providing employment for Matthew Lillard.

I used to feel this way about JAG. Come to think of it, I wouldn’t be surprised to find out they were still churning out new episodes.

Heh, ask Veronica Mars.

They are, but they call it NCIS.

This Old House, too.

Here’s what I don’t understand. With digital cable, I now get like 7 PBS networks. And not a f&cking one of them shows old (read: good) episodes of This Old House.

According to Wikipedia, Cops is still an ongoing show, in its 24th season. I have no idea when it’s on. I never even stumble across it by accident when I’m channel surfing, but Wikipedia says “1989-present”.

The sitcom Rules of Engagement. I caught a few episodes of it a while back; it’s not bad, really, but I’m surprised it’s in its sixth season.

If you mean Bob Vila episodes, it may be because Bob Vila left on pretty bad terms with the network. He didn’t quit, he was fired, or at least that was my understanding.

I know, but they have to know those shows were popular as hell and they almost certainly still own the rights to them since TLC isn’t airing them any more as “Remodeling Zone” or whatever bullshit title they had to use when they re-ran them.

It was actually just canceled by Fox, but they will make specials. Just no more regular show.

That is terrible. I never knew it lasted so long either but it is the ultimate reality TV and I always loved the show and its theme song.
